I've got 12 desktops, all in my bedroom and I would like to figure out how I can organize them so that they're neat and take up more vertical room than horizontal room. I'm fairly tall so the 'tower' can be higher than usual (Over 5ft for example). I need some one give me an idea of how I could put these computers or at least some of them in some sort of tower or something.

I would like to kind of stack them up, hook them up to a massive KVM switch and then give them tasks similar to U1 servers... I don't need all of them in one tower but I would like to at least make some of them go somewhere where they will take less room. At the moment I have them standing next to each other which is taking up valuable floor space so I would like to stand them up vertically. No I'm not going to put them on their side and just stack them up because they could easily top over. So, any ideas? Maybe you've done this before?

Cliffs:
Got lots of computers
Computers are taking up lots of floor space
Need to find a way to stack them up
probably goanna need a massive KVM switch
I want the 'cabinet' to look nice, not sure if I want a windowed one
maybe need a cabinet to isolate sound
cabinet can be fairly tall as I happen to be so
bleh
help.

metal shelving units would be great if you can find them in a format that work for you.

other option: build your own cabinet. you can even build your own custom wiring into it. if you make your own cabinet, keep cooling in mind when choosing materials or in its construction (i.e. a cabinet of solid inch-thick wood panels with no ventillation would be a bad idea).

I would suggest running all the machines with their side panels off (unless the side panels have fans) to help with air flow. As for the cabinet, you'll want more towers on the bottom than the top. So for 12, consider 4 on the bottom, 3 each on two middle shelves, and two on the top.

also, if you're planning on clustering them, you might consider gigabit ethernet.

Butters? is that you?

On a more serious note, why the hell do you have 12 desktops in your bedroom?

lay them out horizontally and attatch them to the cieling like a bunch of ceiling tiles. They will take up 0 floor space.

OK, revised question...why the hell do you have 12 desktops AT ALL?

Even in my most ambitious dreams I cannot conceive of a use for more than one computer per room that I have in my house.

Run them on their side like old school desktops? Assuming they don't need their CD drives accessed too much, and then stack them?

I didn't realize butters from southpark was computer literate... I thought he just had over protected parents who had him do tap dancing but ended up killing a bunch of people and became traumatized over it..

Uhm... I think their input would be along the lines of "get the hell away from me, geek." Or, "Sell them and buy a freaking car."

I've never had a single person in my life call me a geek, believe it or not, not even a nerd....

1. Sell eleven computers
2. Buy a nice computer desk
3. Maybe an upgrade
4. Pocket the difference a.k.a Profit!
