Looking to get system faster than fast, scsi question.

I think i have a pretty good system going, I wont go into details other than my hard drive situation.
Right now i have a 120gig SE 8mb cache a 60 gig maxtor 7200. Im thinking of getting a u160 card and running my system files from that drive and storage/mp3z/etc on the 120 giger. Is it worth it to be as fast as i can get? Is the difference i will see so small that it would be a waste of money?
Should i just get another 120 gig and raid 0 them? Thanks for your advice. :)

Depends on how much you want to spend. Going Ultra160 scsi is going to be quite expensive. You'll probably get a better price/performance ratio if you go ide raid 0. However, if you want to go scsi, here is a good website: Hyper Microsystems.

For the vast majority of tasks, a good seek time will give you much more real world benefit than throughput. An IDE RAID 0 setup will handily beat even a 15k rpm U160 SCSI drive in throughput, but unless you're into moving huge files back and forth, the scsi will be much faster for you.

Until Newegg carries high end scsi, hypermicro is the cheapest in terms of price. Or you can visit the FS/T forums, where it's cheaper. :)

Indeed it is, just picked up a u160 card and working on a hdd to carry my system files. :)

Actually, NewEgg does carry some good SCSI products. You can get a OEM Adaptec 19160 SCSI controller card for around 200. I would get a Fujitsu 15K RPM, 36.7GB Hard drive, 3.5ms seek time, 160mbs transfer rate, can get that for like 400 dollars. Fujitsus IMO are one of the best, if not the best, SCSI hard drives you can buy for the money (alot of money).

If you have a WD Caviar 120GB HDD, I don't see the practicality of you upgrading to SCSI unless you are hosting a server or something else that is very hard drive demanding. According to your sig, I would spend that money upgrading to a 2.53B, that would probably help your multimedia benchmarks more then a faster HDD alone.
