Theres a bunch of stuff to sample on Amazon, as well as Prime music, and quite a few free albums from emerging artists.

Start with old school country and progress through the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s. If you get into it, chances are that only a fraction of what passes as country today will appeal to you.

Hank Williams
Roy Acuff
Ernest Tubb
Merle Travis
Johnny Cash
Patsy Cline
George Jones
Merle Haggard
Waylon Jennings
Willie Nelson
Emmylou Harris
Townes Van Zandt

Too many others.

Without question, I'd recommend starting with Hank Williams. The songwriting was incredible, that high lonesome sound unmistakable. Humor, pathos, love and longing - it's all there, and I'm not sure it's ever been equaled. If you're not familiar with his songwriting, you might be amazed at the tunes that you know, but were written and first recorded in the late 40s and early 50s.

Eleven letters in his name. Good.
