Looking to get a shortwave radio...

Lucky

Lifer
for an xmas present for my father. Any suggestions on what brand (my dad said something about grundig (?) ) or what features to look for? I'm looking to spend anywhere from $100-$200.

I got a cheap Sangean under RadioShack's brand-name. I forget what Sangean # it is, but it covers the whole SW band and offers SSB support as well. It cost me $89. DX-402.

thanks for the link. I honestly don't know where to start. I don't want to go too cheap on him but he said he doesn't need all the bells and whistles so i was just hoping for advice on must-get features or a recommendation for a specific unit.

He mentioned Grundig, and that S350 is a nice radio. In your price range, too.

Call your local Radio Shack and ask if they have or can get the DX-398. It's discontinued, and replaced by a cheaper (although not bad) Grundig radio.

If they have it DON"T LET THEM TALK YOU INTO ANOTHER MODEL!!!

I got mine for a hundred bucks, and it is a rebadged Sangean ATS-909 (which is what this link points to). It usually costs almost $300

BTW, this site is THE one to use in deciding what to purchase.

Good luck 😀
