Recently my system has been running quite hot and noisy. I am looking to get some decent cooling in it now. As of now i have 2 Sunon fans that came with the chieftec case, and 2 cheap-o light up fans from best buy (all of which dont do sh!t). I am running stock CPU cooling. Also i think the ball bearing in my PSU second fan has gone. Anyway to disable or fix the second fan. Everyone says that for fans (80mm) that the Panaflo L1A is the best with out question. Is it quiet tho? Also stock cooling has got to go. I wish i could get the SP-97 but 6 fans 1 rounded cable and a $55 HS and whatever i need to wrap PS cables in is too much. Im trying to keep it under 50-65 dollars. I would like to order ASAP. Any suggestions.

Also, like everyone else, i will probably end up buying the panaflo fans, can anyone recommend an excellent online place to order from (as newegg doesn't sell panaflo).

Panaflo L1As are pretty quiet, and do very well against pressure.
Panaflo and Delta are some of the few manufactruers who have genuine, reliable fan specs.
If you have a 2-fan PSU, you should be able to snip the wires (or if it has a plug, unplug the thing) of the wnd fan.

If your case is one with four fan spots, here's my suggestion:
-SLK0947U from SVC.com. Buy *NOW*. $20+S&H.
-3x Panaflo L1A 80mm (also at SVC).

1 L1A for HSF, 2 for rear case fan mounts. Remove front fans for the time being, and neaten up cables for good air flow (zip ties can do a lot!).
92mm would be better (not by a whole lot, though), but 92mm Panaflo L fans are hard to find under $10+s&h.

Good luck. If you have enough left, or save a bit in the future, get a non-PWM (pulse width modulation) fan controller, as you can quiet them even more, and it wil also allow you to raise the speed if heavy gaming or something warrants it. here's one.

Well actually after some testing just now my case fans are doing a pretty good job. A little bit of a whine but nothing much. My CPU however is WAY WAY up there 57C idle. (That is through asus) The thing that is really making my system a noisy POS is my ancient HDD. Western Digital 20GB 73200RPM. That things whines so loud!!!! God i want to get a WD Raptor 74Gig but $200 is sooooo expensive. Also my PSU is kinda noisy. So i might go with one of those ones with one big 120mm fan.

Any suggestions on what to do for my HDD. Is it best just to wait a little and earn some money and then go. Is the 74Gig noticably faster and quieter than the 36.7 Gig. I want it to be quiet and fast.

As for my PSU i think i know what im going with.

At any rate here are my temps (keep in mind im in a single zone house upstairs in a 12x10 room so ammbient temps are prob 30C

Case temp: 30C
CPU temp: 57C idle 67C load

Well, then the SLK-947U and one Panaflo :).
For a new HD, when you can, anyway, get a Samsung or Seagate. Seagates aren't as quiet as 75% or so of Samsung,s but there is one motor Samsung uses that's almost as loud as a WD, so it's a risk, where Seagates are predictable.

If you plan on getting a new PSU, I'm perfectly happy w/ a Fortron 300w with one of those big fans on the bottom, though for future-proofing, you could get a 350 or 400.
If you have some foam around (maybe 3/8" thick), you could have the WD lay on a bed of foam, make slits and have screws on the bottom of the drive (the heads of the screws pressed into the slits, so it will stay put well enough for normal use).

Right now i am gonna save a bit for my WD Raptor 74 Gig. However now or sometime really soon i will get an SLK 947U and a Panaflo. Does anyone know if ill notice a huge difference between a 36.7Gig drive and a 74Gig drive. I want it to be pretty fast but i dont really care about a teeny difference.

For my PSU i was looking at a Silverstone 400Watt PSU. The reason this puppy costs so much is because it has active PFC. I have hard that it is strong and dead quiet. But I will definately get a new PSU 1 rounded cable and the other two (HSF)

My current understanding is that Silverstone's PSUs are Enhance. Haven't verified it, but if they are, it'll be a good PSU. I still recommend getting the heatsink RIGHT NOW, though, as it is in fact a sale, and either they won't carry it anymore, or it will go back up to $50 soon.
