Looking to come to Vancouver?

No fucking thanks. TOO big of a city for my liking...

(besides...the Canuckistanian border guards won't let me cross the border)

:hmm:

that looks like a pic taken from outside of Vancouver, looking into Vancouver.

Do you swear, now, and on your mother's grave, that if I visited Vancouver, and maybe lived there, I could have that view, living in Vancouver?

:colbert:

That's LGA 775, would have a HELL of a time getting my 970 into that. LOL 😛

Bobby? Izzat you?

Yes.

You see this pic was taken roughly where the red ^ is in the below pic with the red line indicating the skyline in this pic roughly. Basically anything within the BLUE circle would be considered Vancouver proper. The green circles represent areas that are part of greater Vancouver, suburbs and the like. I live in North Vancouver there.

Hm, my old apartment is in that photo. Awesome.

I'm not sure if I'll live here for the rest of my life, but any person who says this city isn't beautiful... is god damned insane.

It's simply awesome location, I don't have word other than this to describe this beautiful location that is situated in the heart of Vancouver City.

Go to Vancouver with containers of cash though. I can't imagine mere mortals being able to own real estate there.

I'm good. My city doesn't riot when our Hockey team chokes.

Fine by me

Pros

One of the most beautiful cities in the world
One of the most cultural diverse cities in the world
One of the highest standards of living
Low unemployment
Low crime rate (compared to the US)
Low pollution
Ski, swim, golf, hike, dine in some of the nicest restaurants all in the same day
Socially extremely liberal
Very large artistic community
Host to one of the best universities in NA
One of the economic digital hubs of NA
One of the greenest cities
Some of the mildest weather around. Summers around 28C (82F), Winters around 0-5C (32-40F)

Cons

A little too enthusiastic about their hockey
It rains a bit in the winter

Yeah I'll take that for 200 Alex.

When I was walking around the streets of downtown Vancouver during a business trip, I thought I was in Tokyo! Was shocking that a North American City could have such a high percentage of Asians. Indian population is quite large as well there. Too much rain for my liking, and the crime rate for things such as break and enters and vehicle thefts are higher than then other Canadian Cities such as Calgary. Another thing I noticed about Vancouver is that many people live in tiny apartment buildings due to the high cost of living there. You'll see guys driving BMW's with nice clothes, yet they live in a 500 square foot apartment thats an absolute dive. Overall its a nice place to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there. Great place if you're into sushi, as theres a sushi restaurant on every corner there.

You forgot it's beyond f'n expensive to live there. While it might be "one of the highest standards of living" it's also one of the most expensive cities in the world.

And it has some of the most annoying panhandlers I've ever encountered. I can't even call them panhandlers. This is something else...I had a kid in clothes better than mine come up and ask me to buy him a Starbucks. And it was like that all across downtown. At least the panhandlers here put some effort into a sign, look the part, and ask for some change.

😀

If pan handlers are on your list of major reasons not to like a city then you don't have a lot of problems 😛 Seriously though I haven't noticed panhandlers being all that much of an issue. I know it IS something people talk about and it's something you will encounter but I worked in 7-11 here for 4 years too and during that time I only knew 2 or 3 really aggressive panhandlers who became well known to me.

Yes it IS expensive to live here. However it's not quite as bad as people say if you are willing to rent and not live right down town.
