Going to get a workout bike, so if any of you guys know of the best/good brands I'd appreciate it... all I'm looking for is a calorie counter, distance cycled, and maybe a preprogrammed Hill setting. :)

Why not get a real bike? Then you could get some fresh air and see the scenery while you ride.

Well, I do have an outside deck that overlooks the ocean, so I would be riding it outside... also, the roads here have small shoulders, and people drive like maniacs.

Out of curiosity, why would a recumbent be better than other cardio machine like an elliptical or rowing machine?

I use the elliptical at the gym all the time. Want to buy one but they are WAYYYY too much money. I'm looking at rowing machines cause they seem lower priced and burn more cals, but even then, they are expensive :(

its about 1K for a good machine. Its worth it if you live in a house. Save on the gym membership and you can exercise while you watch tv.

I hate gyms, its a pain in the ass to get there and you lose most of the evening if you go. Working out at home is the best. I'm on the elliptical from 11:30 - 12:30 so I watch a drew carey rerun and then blind date. Then I shower and go to sleep.

I wanted to get a rowing machine too since it burns more calories, but settled on an elliptical machine since I wanted to work out my legs since I own two dumbbells to work out my upper body.

I think the $600 one will suffice (it has hill workout/calories/distance biked), I checked out the nordictrack and liked their $600 machine from the link above... What brands would you be referring to when you say 1K?

DWW, I'd prefer recumbent over elliptical and rowing because it's easier on the back/knees at all out speed (less chance of injury at 100%)... I plan on doing a MAX-OT Cardio for 16 minutes a day so I don't lose any muscle in the morn, then do weights a couple times a week at night.

go test out the machines at you local soprting goods store (around me its sports authority). I've tried the cheap $300 ,$600-$700, and $1.2K ellipticals.

The $600-$700 machines were better then the $300 models but not really anywhere 2X as good. but the schwinn was definately worth every penny of the $1.2K from the first moment I got on the machine I knew that it was THE machine to own.

I actually bought the $300 one because I didn't think I'd use it after 3 weeks and it actually sat in the living room for 3 months before I actually started to use it. Now that I've got a system down I use it religiously. I'm just waiting for it to break so I can buy a schwinn.

I was looking at the prices for the bikes. Schwinns actually offers cheaper models unlike their elliptical machines.

I have the 710 which is a really nice bike for the money.

I also have a nordictrack one... not sure which model without going downstairs. But, it's great in my opinion.

The best brand is the Lifecycle brand. There is a reason all really good gyms use them. ;)

I wish I got the recumbant Lifecycle instead of the standard one.. my umm, parts, get numb after a while on the standard Lifecycle. Still, it's one of the best investments I ever made. :D

I'd save some money, and get a used one.

Personally, I have an old Sears exercise bike that I bought for 50 cents at yard sale. NO speedometer, no computer, no heartrate monitor, and no stinkin' cupholder. Just pedals, a chain, a wheel, a seat, and friction adjustment knob. It's got "cool" retro styling, and it rattles and makes a funny squeaking noise when you pedal it too fast. Works like a charm, though.

Thanks for the input... what model and how much did you pay for it? The Lifecycle 95Re price isn't listed on their website...
