We're looking for a pomeranian puppy. We've called two local pet store and they each had one. The one store wanted $900 for it. It's a male and was born on 10/04/2004. The other store had a "mixed" for $650 and it was born on 11/1/2004.

My good friend who has two goldens told me to stay away from pet stores. They get them from the puppy mill or something. Then again, not all of them are that case. She told me to go to an animal rescue, but then again would they have puppies there? Breeders want anywhere between $1200 - $2000 for this breed.

Any experience with buying a puppy from a pet store?

Why do you need a specific breed? Pick up some poor homeless puppy from the pound. You'll save a life, and thousands of dollars.

Plus, mutts are not inbred and a bit...dim...like purebreds tend to be.

A Pom? Please turn in your fake cock and balls, since you're obviously a woman inside. :p

Go adopt a mixed or mutt from the shelter or animal hospital.

Also, motivation behind puppy? Living arrangements, people in the house, age range, etc?

and you don't have to worry about genetic problems of certain breeds ie Hip Dysplacia (sp?) like on goldens or german shepards.

Haha, just go to a pound, and play with some of them, you'll fall in love with one (or five in my case) regardless of breed.

Go take a look at a couple of shelters anyways, and you might change your mind about NEEDING to buy one.

Specific breed as in you just happened to like how it looks, right? Have you done any research on the possible dogs to get?

Oh, and stay away from pet stores, if you cant afford one from a reputable breeder, then you shouldn't be buying one.

That said, adopt a pound puppy,

To make a nerd analogy, that's like someone saying they LOVE the geForce FX5200. Why are you taking the Kia of canines? Pom's aren't known for being kind-tempered. :p

Also, motivation behind puppy? Living arrangements, people in the house, age range, etc?

A good suggestion, and my previous questions. A dog is a big decision.

Friend just got a black Pom for $300. Registered and everything so I don't know where you get the $2000 price from.

Every petstore sells puppy mill puppies, no real breeder would sell to a petstore in the first place.
