Looking to buy a notebook ..

Hey, I am looking to buy a new notebook for college. I'll be taking it to most every class (on bike ... you can't drive around my campus) to take notes, play DVDs, surf the web and download/burn music for my main uses. The max I want to spend is about $1,200. After searching a bunch of discount stores I think I found a tablet PC that is pretty ideal. I wasn't planning on going tablet only because the prices were too high, but this one is actually in my price range:

For 1,208.99 shipped next day with a DVD player ... Now, the only thing that I have a problem with is the integrated video. I really doubt it will be a huge deal as I haven't played a game online in a long time, but then again there's a chance that I'll want to.

I'll likely be buying a desktop in a couple years to go along with this, and I suppose if I could update the video card I would eventually. Is that possible?

The wireless part is very important to me because of the fact that my campus is wireless.

I saw a couple other "deals" ... Which do you guys think I should go with:
Acer 1.5ghz 512mb RAM, Radeon 9200 Centrino ($1200):

Compaq 1.4ghz 512mb RAM, Radeon 9200 Centrino ($1079):

Compaq P4M 2.8ghz 512mb RAM, Radeon 9000 ($1,189):

Thanks a bunch ..

bro, your links SUCK.

i'd go w/ the acer. i have an acer notebook now (TM 370) and love it.

i wouldn't get the compaq w/ the pentium 4 processor. the pentium M 1.5ghz will run as fast as the 2.8ghz while consuming much less power and dissipating much less heat.

You can usually get it like $50-$100 cheaper thru your campus with education discounts.

Refurbed 1GHZ G4 Ibook for $949, just add the 3 year protection plan and its a hotdeal.

Agreed, iBooks are built like tanks and are great little systems. With 4-6 hours of battery life, expandable memory up to 1.25GB, and an Airport Extreme option it's an extremely hot deal. Apple's 3 year warranty for the machine is also very affordable, especially at educational discount. I love my Powerbook, but also loved the iBook I had before it!

ibooks OOS, no? anyway, compaqs can be pretty kick-ass if you splurge on the 15" 1800x1200 LCD (don't forget the academic discount). Only problem is: heavy, 7lbs

at 5lbs, there's a bunch of dell 500/600 series, very nice, can be had at $1200 incl 3yr warranty... look at those

at 3 lbs, there's a few dell 300/400 series, also pretty nice
