I'm looking to buy a DVD burner soon, and I want a drive that can burn DVD-RAM discs (for backup purposes). I've been eyeing the LG GSA-4120B because it can seemingly take almost any DVD format available today.

The drive seems to have fairly good reviews, with only a few other drives beating it in a few benchmarks. I don't need the "fastest drive on the block", just something that will get the job done. :) Does anyone here own one of these?

Now I'm just pondering whether or not I should wait 6-12 months for a new revision of the drive (possibly with DVD-RAM 16x support), or buy the current model now. Any thoughts?

The Pioneer DVR-108 looks like a pretty nice drive, but it doesn't have DVD-RAM support. :(

Thats about the only drive you will find that has that RAM support and I've read a lot of reviews praising the quality. But definitely do your research.

I would get the drive now. I am not sure whether the DVD RAM technology is still being improved, and whether there ever will be 16x RAM DVDs at all.

Might I ask why you still are using DVD RAM? It seems DVD RAM is fading out more and more lately...
