looking to buy 24" lcd - concerned about input lag/gfx

First post here, this looks like a great place to get some help on hardware questions. I would have posted in the LCD thread but I didn't want to flood it with my boring questions that could be put into one thread.

I'm currently looking into investing in a 24" lcd screen. The prices have dropped enough that I figure it's a good investment. I just have a few questions before I take the plunge.

When I was looking at these quite a while ago, there was always the question of input lag. I'm wondering if this is still really a critical issue, or if they have solved it?

The monitor that I'm looking at is:

24" LCD LG Flatron L245WP-BN

I live in Europe, which cuts down the availability of some monitors, this looks like the best one in my range. Anybody know anything about it?

I also would need to upgrade from my x600xt I'm assuming. I don't play any games, just use the computer for 3d design/movies/tv shows/photoshop. I don't know if the 600xt would be good enough to run smooth video on the 24" screen. Does anybody have any recommendations for a good enough card for what I need it for (no games! ). I'm on a budget, so I'm specifically wondering if the 8600GT would be good enough. I would prefer passive cooling if possible.

FWIW, we've got a 24" Dell at home, and put in a 7300gs or some crap, and it has no problems. At work we've got a 7100 powering two 22"s with no problems.

Bottom line, I don't think your card is going to be a problem

Thanks. My card already has some problems pushing some of my meshes in 3ds max at a lower resolution, so I think that I might have to upgrade if I want to work at higher resolutions.

Have you noticed any input lag with the Dell? Do you know which model you have specifically?

I have an 800 on my machine at work and it's presently running a pair of 19" crt's at 1280x1024 with no problems. Including 3ds max. If you have large meshes, i'm sure the card isn't ideal for the work. In fact, the card is less than ideal for max in general. It's only 'officially' supported cards are workstation level: quadro's, fireGl's etc.

If you're trying to do serious 3d work, the 800 card isn't what you need.

I have the lg flatron 24" with the usb ports and it works great, no lag or ghosting, good colors and no backlight bleeding. My biggest peave is the built in power saving that causes it to not display my bios information most of the time during bootup. Regardless of what power saving features you have set in windows the built in power saving feature of the monitor will place it in standby if it doesn't detect usage in a very short amount of time.

I find the tailored 3d cards to be way too overpriced. Just basically looking for something that would perform at the same level that my current card does, but at a higher resolution. Would either of these cards be anywhere nearly enough:
