Looking to build another rig

I shall update this when the parts arrive (I think I feel a cold coming on in about three days...) and I have it all assembled.

However, in my haste, I realized I didn't change the PSU even though I added two 670s to the list. I checked the Corsair PSU return policy and it has a 30 day full refund policy, so if I need to grab a higher wattage PSU, I can just return it and buy a new one with overnight shipping. Though I don't foresee a problem with a 650W PSU on dual 670s.

If you're ordering from Newegg, just ordered, and it didn't ship yet, you might still have time to cancel the order.

You never said what setup you ended up buying and what the parts cost you?

Check the first post in the thread. I edited the opening post so new people checking the thread could see what I had settled on.

Well, I just checked my e-mail and the payment authorization failed. I forgot the limit on my card is $2,000 and I must call my bank to manually increase the limit. I guess I have an extra day after all to make any changes 🙂

edit: WOW! just found another great deal in the Hot Deals section 99$ for a Seasonic X 650w Link to Hot Deals thread
Unfortunately that expired yesterday... 🙁

Right. Good thinking on the 4GB cards. Not sure if worth another $200 but it does future proof your VRAM use for the next couple of years at least, and some games could use over 2GB at 2560x1440 even now.

With regard to the PSU - you only have two PCIe connectors by default so you need adapters to drive the second graphics card. Technically 650W is enough but I would say it's a bit sub par for this rig, I would return it and buy the more efficient, more powerful and modular XFX 750W XXX I linked earlier, it costs only $10 more before rebate and the same after, and it's just as good quality.

I hope you won't be disappointed with the G500. I was. So many problems, these just off the top of my head: heavy and very clicky scrollwheel, sensor not centered, uncomfortably placed thumb buttons, heavy, difficult to grip and lift/reposition due to matte surface. And I have large hands. I'm almost certain you would like the G400 better, or the Zowie mouse I recommended.

I have the G500 and it is the best thing thats happened to my FPS gameplay. About the side buttons, i think you may have been pressing them incorrectly. You are suppose to press the top side button with the tip of your thumb, and the lower button with the midpoint of your thumb. You don't have to reposition your thumb at all! A game that I play requires pressing 2 buttons extremely fast, and these side buttons have helped a lot.

Also it's a clicky scroll wheel because it has extremely handy tilt buttons...but you wont ever press them by accident. love scrolling through browser tabs with it. I don't think I can buy another mouse that doesn't have a tilt wheel.

What other mice have you had?

The middle button gets in the way of my normal grip, it's positioned too low. Perhaps we have different size hands. All of the buttons were too small for my liking, I much prefer buttons like these: http://i.imgur.com/6eycJ.png

So it's not possible to design a non-clicky scrollwheel that can tilt? I doubt that

In any case, even if I agreed with you about these two issues, they are both minor. The main issues are that it's too heavy, that the sensor is not centered, and that it's difficult to lift and reposition comfortably. Comfort comes first because it's the most important factor in aiming. Because of this, a simple Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical is superior to G500 overall even if it doesn't have as good a sensor and as many buttons. Of course this is based on my personal experience.

Before this i was just using a standard microsoft 3-button mouse.

If by clicky you mean you happen to press them by accident...that doesn't ever happen to me.

It was too heavy even without the weights? I actually use the extra weights cuz it was too light for me. And I don't have to reposition it too often because I have an extremely large mousepad (helps with low sensitivity) 🙂 Also never had a problem with sensor positioning

I guess it's mostly personal preference though

No I mean clicky as in sounds loud and feels heavy

Yeah, it's pretty heavy without additional weights. MS WMO is barely 80g, G500 is 116g or so. For me, a mouse heavier than 100g is a bit uncomfortable to use. The weight tuning would make sense if you could (a) decide where the additional weights go rather than lump everythin in the same spot, and (b) allow an otherwise light mouse to feel heavy, e.g. 80g -> 140g.

What type of adapters are we talking about here? My last PSU I bought came with several extra components (though I didn't need them so I cannot remember what they were exactly), so if I need aftermarket components, I might as well get a PSU that might accommodate SLI configurations.

I know it's rather late but I thought I would give an update. I built my rig over the weekend and only one GPU was doa. A new one is being shipped my way but in the meantime this runs flawless. Even with just one 670 it doesn't lag with any game on top of the two second boot time thanks to the SSD.

Thanks again for all the input. Money well spent.
