Looking to build a pc for my g/f

I'm looking to build my g/f a pc for her birthday.. the budget is around 400-500 I think..
she would play counter-strike, gunbound, and the specialist.. wondering if this pc is overkill or not..
MSI K7N2GM-V Socket A NVIDIA nForce2 IGP Micro ATX AMD (mobo)
Kingsto ValueRAM 512mb 182-Pin DDR SDRAM PC3200 (ram)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 333mhz FSB Socket A (CPU)
My cousin is offering to give me a GeForce2.. any other suggestions on video card?
Also, if anyone has any other suggestions of system specs.. please tell me..
She told me she wanted it fast, so I chose pretty fast parts

Hmm, you might wanna look into a Geforce 4 if you can, maybe get a 2800 instead. Chicks dig small cases so get her something small and cute and she'll like it.

AMD Based Computer $488.00

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton Processor $101.00

ASUS A7V600-X VIA KT600 ATX AMD Motherboard $55.00

Antec Solution Series Case with 350w power supply $64.00

Corsair 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory $44.00

Windows XP Home $88.00

Western Digital Caviar 80GB ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer $59.00

SAPPHIRE 100561L Radeon 9600PRO 128MB Video Card $77.00

Isnt there like a pink one with bunny ears? Heh. IDK, I would try to fit an A64 in there if at all possible. Getting outdated equipment is never nice; instead, get current gen but lower spec.

any suggestion on a small case? also, what model geforce 4 do you suggest?

I have a 64bit MX440 on my HP, which I was very surprised by. I can play UT2k3 flawlessly with pretty high settings, America's Army with low settings, Sims 2 with low settings, and all my RTS and RPGs (such as Warcraft 3 and AoE2). I think they go for about 40 - 50 bucks.

Sorry I dunno much about sff cases.

My gf is using one of these SFF cases, but I stuck a 9500pro in it rather than using the sh!tty onboard video.

It has 512mb of pc2100 and an 1800+XP in it and it runs Sims2 pretty well (1280x1024 she thinks, I just asked her).

[What's wrong with my case, Kainz? 😛
I think every girl that's seen it has said it's cute or made a comment about it being small and cool.

It is quite cool... but have you seen the price on that thing? lol

Alright then.

It's not so bad when you consider it's a case, powersupply, fans, and motherboard together.

😛 I was gonna point out that it was a barebone 😛

o0o didnt notice the mobo in it.. I like the aspire mini case stated above..

does micro mean mini? cause if I get the mini case i would want the mobo to fit..

I've heard tons of good things about the Aspire QPack if that's what you're talking about. Since your motherboard is MicroATX, it will fit in that case just fine.

Alright.. I'm getting caught up in the confusion between cases and mobos and stuff.. which would be a better buy? the barebone or the Aspire QPack and the mobo I chose?
Aspire case is 103 and the mobo is 57.50
the barebone is $168..

Hmm...I would have to go with the Aspire and the mobo of your choice, primarily because you get a more powerful PSU (albeit an Aspire...) and you get to pick your mobo instead of just going with the one that comes in the bb.

ok thanks.. does anyone know how hot a mini case gets? how many fans it needs?.. how many the case would hold..?

It really doesn't matter in this situation, the hardware you're putting in it doesn't get very hot to begin with. The QPack has a 120mm exhaust fan plus the PSU exhausting air, which is more than enough cooling.
