<< his is inadvisable, as Liteon CDRWs have some issues. Plextor makes some good drives that aren't too expensive, but if you want real performance--you have to buy Yamaha. >>

Yamaha.... Their 16x didn't even have burnproof. Lite-ons are good for a person on a budget.

I have known many people that had to send their Yamaha burners back due to them breaking or just not working in the first place.

What are the issues lite-on drives have? I haven't heard any.

Many recent Lite-Ons have had to be RMA'd. As for the 24x Yamaha, it has burn proof, a new burning mode specifically for CD-DA, and is the fastest burner--period. Of course, you get what you pay for.

<< Yes, but it'd be more cost effective to buy a Ti200 and overclock it to Ti500 levels. As for paying for an operating system (Win2k SP2 is my choice), I don't understand why anyone would want to...a single user will never be caught pirating. >>

Probably not, but for the legality of it I posted it and included it in the price. I know anandtech is not in favor of piracy. If people starting telling people to pirate stuff all around these forums, that would not be good. To you see my side here? I'm sure lilbabimac can decide if he wants to pay for XP or get it illeagally. As far as I'm concerned, I'll show him where to get a decent price on it.

This is not always the case. Look at AMD and Intel. Are you getting more when you pay more for an Intel processor? Some say yes, others say no.

If you looked at the system I priced up, it offers a lot. And the reason for this is I opted for stuff that had a good price/preformance ratio, except the videocard because the videocard of a system is usually the first thing to be upgraded and it is the limiting factor of most games. So I opted for the best.

Because of this reason the system has great sound, great video, able to burn at 24x etc etc and it only costs 1141 with a legal version of XP. This does not include a monitor. Some of these systems priced up here have a faster processor, but offer less in other areas.

You could opt for the best in one area, but then you have to skimp in another. For instance, a more expensive processor may make you have to get a less expensive videocard. I opted for middle of the road everything (cept for videocard) and the computer would still be great and able to handle any task he threw at it except anything with DVD 🙂 And for many, Lite-On burners are perfect for their needs.

As you'll see in my config, I opted for everything other than a keyboard, though I came out to $1499. I just love the P-CAV of the Yamaha.
