Required parts:

Conroe E6600 (for oc as well)
2gb ddr2-667 or better
DVDRW
320gb hd but not a 400/500/750gb (because for the same money I can get 2-3)
good mobo for SLI or crossfire or 7950 gx2 and for good OC
SLI/Crossfire/7950 GX2 setup
A monitor (LCD or CRT) that does 1920x1200 at least. If crt I would like something 0.20mm.
Logitech G15 and G7 ;0
No speakers or headset

I don't care about the case, the PSU, or anything else. Looking for OC parts though.

Dont upgrade now, for the love of god. DX10 cards are right around the corner.

You could get everything up to the gpu, but skip buying anything high end for now, get a 7600gt or something and then upgrade once R600 and G80 are out.

If you're a Dell Preferred Customer, you can grab a 25% off LCDs coupon from ebay (make sure you can use it with the 2407WFP). Smaller monitors can exhibit less motion blur, but it's impossible to say if you'll notice it with this monitor or not. Or, you could get a Sony GDM-FW900. New old stock are nearly impossible to find, though.

Choose your own case. If you're looking for high performance, might I suggest a Raptor primary drive?

here is some money advice:

when spending 3,000 dollars you should do your own research and figure to buy. *note

* This goes for everyone starting these threads "build me a rig" at least decide an idea of what you want than make a thread revising your machine. This needs to stop the rest of us need to stop helping people like this it's taking over General Hardware.

I'm just nervous because of X1950 XTX cards and also just the mere fact that DX10 cards will come out and make them obsolete.

X1950XT wasn't even that impressive I think it was a X1900XT with higher clocked GDDR3 and Clock Speed. If you want something to hold you off till DX-10 a X1900XT/X1900XTX should work also there making a X1950XL I rember reading about on the inquirer.

and seriously take my advice I stated before

the x1950XT is more evolutionary and revolutionary. it's the same core but with GDDR4 and higher speeds. it performs better yes, but not much. good thing is the the CS edition costs the same the the regular edition. but i would wait for the R600. and you need to decide whether you want CS or SLi.

I find that the "help me spec out my next system" threads are one of the most helpful and constructive type of threads I have read on this forum.

Well according to the CPU forums, the E6600 is a bit of a risky chip, and an E6700 might be a better buy for overclocking.
