Looking to add memory and HD to 700m - need help!

I just recently bought a 700m and I want to add some memory and a new hard drive. I saw the configuration of another 700m being sold and I want to do something very similar but with a little more "mmph." The one I want to model mine after is here:

The only problem is that I am about as adept as a drunken monkey with computer hardware. I just know that I want it to work and work fast. I am thinking of going to get a local shop to install everything, but if at all possible I would like to do it myself. I wanted to know if other forum members could help me out by letting me know if the memory and ram I have picked out on Newegg.com is compatible with the 700m.

I am thinking two sticks of 1g for memory:

and I am thinking of this for the hard drive:

I would really appreciate any feedback and tips or advice. I would also welcome any more modification suggestions.

Do you have the Dell restore CD? manual?

Memory upgrades are really easy, remove a cover and/or the keyboard tray, pop out old SO-DIMMs, snap in new ones. The manual (or PDF from Dell website) shows this.

Hard drive is reasonably straightforward too, the manual might show it too. Remove screws from cover plate, remove screws from drive or drive holder, detach drive from connector.

If you have a restore CD it will put back everything including drivers. If not you need to use another machine to download all the drivers and burn to CD.

Just beware that it might void your warranty if you do it yourself.

Also, you most likely do not need 2GB. Just buy 1GB for a total of 1GB+256MB (the 256 from your original config, i assume).

I don'tknow if it's coming with the restore CD's. I'm waiting for it to be shipped and I never asked if he had those (DOH!). I can find the drivers at Dell, correct?

There is no warranty left, so that isn't an issue. I figured I would go ahead and stick in 2GB because that's the max. I don't do anything "heavy" like editing and I never play games but I do want it to be fast. It comes with 512MB as of right now. I don't know if that is two 256MB or one 512, but I am assuming it's two 256. Would sticking 2GB in there without needing it cause any problems? Would I see a difference with 2GB over just one 1GB + the 256MB with just normal surfing and multiple applications (iTunes, messenger, Firefox open with 5 tabs, etc.)?

Thanks for the help, guys.

yes

No. Even 1 GB should be plenty for everything except games and some extreme memory users like PhotoShop.

Thanks. What I am thinking is that I will replace the HD with the Hitachi 80g 7200 and add a 1g stick of ram right away. I may add another stick later on if I feel the need.

Can anyone recommend any other upgrades I may need/want on the 700m?
