Looking For X800XT

I would really like to put an Asus PCI-express ATI X800XT graphics card in the new computer I'm building, and I know where I can get one, but supply-and-demand price gouging has made the asking price $640. Should I be patient and wait for the prices of these ultra high-end cards to come down, or am I living in a dream world, where those prices won't come down. Should I jump on it, or nay?

Another option would be to go with a 6800GT PCI-Express, which is cheaper. Then later, you could add another 6800GT in SLI mode.😎

Without looking it up, I am assuming that the extra $200 is a pure geek tax.

Pretty much. I clicked the link for that Gigabyte card, and that site doesn't look too legitimate. They don't even accept credits (although they claim to, their "processor is down," apparently). I went ahead and splured for the Asus model at Zipzoomfly.com (as soon as they came back in stock last night). I figure this will be the only time in my life I can afford to have the best brand / chipset in a vid. card out there, so I did it. Happy gaming!

And, yes, I am a geek.

I'd NOT pay that much for a videocard... wait a bit longer or get something else.

I only paid $375 for my 6800GT and I am happy with it. I wouldn't go any higher than that in price.

Wow, that's a lot for an XT. I paid under $450 for my AGP XT.

i am in the same boat and figured the X800XT pci-e would be a nice card....i will wait a few weeks because i expect prices to fall once the new ATI cards come out...besides i dont even have my mobo (Nforce 4 ) yet - so there's no point in paying premium for something "preordered".

(I already feel like a fool buying my CPU 3500+ which now is already $60 cheaper whan what i paid for...and its still unused since the f****g nforce 4 boards are still not out....)

YES be patient. Easier said than done I know. Are you stuck on ATI? Newegg has a 6800GT PCI-X 495$

At least you're not alone in that......I paid $317 for my 3500+ .90 and it's still in the freakin box. I also picked up an asus x800xt pci-e for $590 5 weeks ago mainly because I was afraid that they would become even more scarce by the time nforce4 boards shipped which seems to be happening just like I feared.

I'm fine with the card but I sure wish I'd waited on the proc.

I'd wait a bit longer if you have faith in ATI as they promised to have X850 models available by end of December for $500-550.

Or get GIGABYTE Radeon X800 XT 256MB VIVO/DVI PCI Express Video Card for $450

Also you can search www.pricegrabber.com or www.pricewatch.com for available models and their pricing.
Ha! Cut and paste syndrome at adosystems still... I think this was mentioned before in another thread too. They still list both 16 pipes (it is a XT) and 12 pipes (but it is a XT?)

Edit - I am not promoting this vendor. Do your research before buying (there is a thread in GH discussing the linked company).
