Moving from area in town with dsl service to an area with only dial up service or one wireless provider. Problem with the only wireless provider is that their service stinks and is slow and expensive. Price is $70 for 768kbps download and 256kbps upload no contract. I believe right now we're paying $30 for 1.5mb divided between two computers.

We are trying to decide what to do and are trying to find other service options. We want no contract. What about Millenicom Wireless, Cricket, or Verizon? Anyone know what wireless speeds could we expect by going this direction? Does anyone know how many devices can be on one of these plans?

Any suggestions?

I'd add Virgin Mobile to that list. It might help if you say where this town is.

Just a FYI, if Virgin Mobile has coverage in your area, they offer a Android phone (the Samsung Intercept) that you can tether with for $25/month for unlimited data. Its pretty fast 1-2Mb/s down and about 0.4Mb/s up. You aren't technically supposed to tether on the plan though, so who knows.

I live 30 miles east of Yuma, AZ in Wellton. Close to the Mexican border and we're basically still in the dark ages. I looked at Virgin but can't tell where their wireless service is. Everywhere on the map seem to only show voice or data service, not the broadband wireless.

Actually Virgin Mobile has a 3G Mobile Hotspot and since it's Virgin Mobile it's all contract free. You do have to buy the Mifi device which is $150 one time cost and it costs $40/month for service. It supports upto 5 devices at one time.
