I will (try) not to succumb but it's not easy.

So for $30/yr do we get double webspace AND bandwidth?

Nah... only double the space, no doubling of bandwidth...

No idea what addon domains are, I asked in my thread there, no reply as of yet... think I'm just gonna go ahead and order because it doesn't look like they update that sticky about the 13 left much, so don't want to lose out...

I use alwayswebhosting as well. The plans are very generous in terms of disk space, bandwidth, subdomains, etc. Plus they keep their server software updated (PHP, MySQL, Cpanel, GD) with the latest and greatest. And the tech support is very responsive.

So I ordered, and submitted payment, got my account details like a minute later. FAST service... but... I'm not sure if I got in on the deal since the post hasn't been updated.

Try logging in to your cPanel, it should have your webspace stats on there ... see if it says 250MB or 500MB.

You should definitely e-mail their billing/sales department asking them to confirm that you did receive the free double webspace and 10 addon domains.

Addon domains are usually used on CPanel accounts. Basically you can add a domain to your account that shares the same space as your other domain. It's kind of clunky though; I never really liked CPanel all that much, but it beats having to request all of it by hand. But, in summary, if you plan on having multiple domains, addons are the way to go on many accounts these days.

cPanel is pretty nice in terms of layout and how much information it gives you on that one page...
I guess they still need to do some account setup since my account currently lists: UNLIMITED MEG hehe.

I just signed up, 'twas exactly the right time for me to buy it too, as I'd been shopping but hadn't settled yet.
Now I can finally have my own website, along with setting up one for my friend's wedding as a partial gift.
Mine also says unlimited space.

I had major problems with AWH - I was one of the customers that got in back when he didn;t have restrictions on traffic, and the space requirements were high. It's been well documented that he's been tryign to shut these users down, and he got to me too. I served a vid for ATOT one day, using ~4Mbps of transfer pretty constantly for a half-hour. I come back to find my account suspended for a "terms of service" violation, which he can only explain by saying "you did not hit any bandwidth amounts in "GB/month", but we reserve all rights to protect our network from excessive use." And I had no limit on my account. Ridiculous.

Hello,

Firstly I would like to say you guys have a great community over here. Whilst it is my first post over here I look forward to contributing to other sections of the forums. However running a business that requires 24/7 dedication does not leave a lot of leeway for "free time". I would also like to thank ROSSman, and dcdomain for pointing this thread out. Solidinternet has been operating since August 2002 and in that time we have built a solid rep for a low price high quality host.

The sale (which is still running I believe 5-10 accounts remain) will never be repeated again as we want to distinguish between our Solidinternet & Myacen Brands. Add-on domains will not be an option in the future on solidinternet, so if you?re considering signing up do so soon. While accounts are created instantly we will modify each special that comes through.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us via the forums or the sales address.

:)

Welcome to ATOT...forgive us for the gay smileys...especially the replacement for the shocked emote.

Don't forget to read the rules to each forum or you're gonna get roasted.

Yes, that and there are also a lot of skins available that make it even better :)

The default skin is nice enough... although it'd be great if there was a way for the client (i.e. ME :)) to edit the skin...

BTW, I got my "all set" email from Robert, thanks... and namecheap is really fast.

Warning

Solidinternet advertises Mailman as a feature in their plans, but it is in fact NOT available. According to their customer forum, which you can't browse unless you're a customer (duh!), it is "riddled with bugs and is currently broken.

It's available :), but yes riddled with bugs. Like most software that cpanel has released we have upgraded ourselves. We are looking to installing the new version server wide.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Sorry, but it's hard for me to accept "riddled with bugs" as a reason. After all, there're lots of places that offer the same thing, and I personally have seen a working exemple. (Hey, at least I can get into the settings instead of seeing a 500)

This is what someone I know has to say.

<Kendokan> riddled with bugs = we don't know how to install it

<Kendokan> it's very picky about rights when you set it up, so if they don't know what they are doing they won't be able to make it work
<Kendokan> but i would INSIST they make it work for you since it is part of what you are paying for
<Kendokan> oh, by the way, it is the most popular and widely used mailing list software on the f*cking planet
