I am not a serious gamer, but there are a few titles that I would like to try. I have 1680x1050 LCD. I am looking for a card that will let me play the particular games that I am interested in at the highest detail possible at 1680x1050. I *think* this resolution will let me get by with a mid-level card. Maybe something based on ATI's 5750 or similar level of performance from Nvidia? 5770? 4670 in crossfire (cheaper?)

The games:
Bio-shock2 (I know it's not out yet, but...)
Dragon Age
(Less demanding games I think):
Eve Online
Oblivion

Thanks!

5770 fits rather nicely at the 1680x1050 res. Especially because you are not a "serious gamer", it's a way better choice than the 4890 since it is cheaper and the lower power consumption won't cost you as much when it sits there in idle most of the time.

As for "Highest Detail Possible" I don't know about 8xAA with the 5770 in BSh2 or DA:O, but at least 2x should be possible.

What's your CPU and RAM btw? DA:O likes 3 or more cores, so you can forget about any AA if you have an Athlon X2 or slower-clocked C2D.

I'll sneak in here for a recommendation as well. What about 1920x1080? Think a 5770 will be enough to run most games at 30-60fps? Games would be Dragon Age, WoW, DOWII, a few other RTS games, rarely play fps games these days.

Running a q8400, 4gb ram, 520w corsair psu, win7. Just can't decide if I want to fork over $300 for a gpu again and if I can fit a 5850 easily in a lian li pc65 mid tower.

TIA

I think you're jumping the gun based on the naming scheme alone.
From that article looks like 5830 is some kind of external video card solution. Should probably wait for at least some performance results before assuming the card will be between a 5770 and 5850.
5770 runs Dragon age:O very well at 1920 x 1080 with everything maxed including 8x AA. No noticable slow downs so far while I've been playing though I don't have fraps running all the time either. I am however doing a modest OC of 925/1300 which I leave at stock cooling speeds.
