looking for two coolers for cpu and vga..

I am looking for two coolers...
one is for q6600 or e8400
other is for g92 vedio card..(8800GTS or 9800).I know some zalman vga coolers donot fit the G92 card..
you guys have any advise on that ?

Need a couple things to give an accurate reccomendation.

1) budget

2) rank these three things from most important to least important

Performance(lowest temperatures)

Silence(lowest noise)

Budget(lowest cost)

3)what case are they getting isntalled in

If you can fit it, I would suggest the arctic cooling accelero S1 with turbo module. It has been shown to cool better than the zalman VF1000.
The Zalman CPU coolers aren't the best, I would rather recommend a tuniq tower or xigmatek-1283.

The 900 (according to Antec) is 2.5" wider than the P180B. I've had both the Tuniq & the Xigmatek in my P180B, so you'll have no trouble there.

Do you know what lapping is and if so, are you comfortable doing it to your heatsink and processor?

I read in a post here a couple months ago (and now I can't find it) that lapping a Core 2 Duo could cause the chip to fail over time. Can't remember the reason behind the failure. Have you heard this b4?

I was just ready to lap mine, until I read that. I'm sure though that there are plenty of enthusiast that have lapped theres and have not encountered a problem.

I second the Arctic Cooling Accelero. I doubt he will need the turbo module with that case, unless he plans on OCing his GPU.

As for the CPU HSF, of course the first nod goes to the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme (especially if lapping), with the Xigmatek 1283 a close second. Even a ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120, a Tuniq T-120, or a Scythe Infinity 1100 would work great.

For liabilities sake I would never say it's impossible that lapping alone would cause a drop in the MTBF of any processor. The ONLY thing I could think of is that lapping an E2x00 could cause the cheaper ceramic epoxy to lose hold if done vigorously and that could in turn cause heat to not transfer from the core to the heatsink but, in the case of any processor series higher they use a mild solder joint so it wouldn't be an issue. Also, I guess if it was wet-lapped and some water and metal shavings managed to get between the IHS and packaging it could short something in there but, chances of that are VERY improbable.

I can only speak from my own experience:
Zalman 7700Cu : at 7V = ratatatatatatata errr errr
Zalman Vf700 : at 7V = wooossssshh wooooshhh
at 12V both sound like cheap hairdryer to my ears

Scythe S-Flex fan : at 12V = ssssshhhh
Scythe S-Flex fan : at 7V = Zzzzzz (me, not the fan)

Yate-Loon YSL-12: ~Scythe, but with less air
