I figure since gas is getting expensive, and im on a workout routine to lose weight anyway, biking to work is a very viable option now. Im looking for advice on anything i should do/buy to accomplish riding my bike to work 1-2 times a week. I own a moutian bike, paid like $500 for it at a bike shop a few years back. Ive got water bottles, lights, and im going to get a helmet. I've read the rules of the road and all that jazz, and I have the shower/clothing situation figured out. I'm basically looking for any advice. It's about 8 miles to my workplace, a straight shot down 1 road with only 1 traffic light on it. Theres a sidewalk the entire way and a bike lane most of the way.

Don't get run over, and remember that you have to obey all traffic laws, same as cars. Other than that, it's fairly straight-forward. Fortunately, you only have one light - I had five or so...was not fun in the summer..and you're further south than I am..

Replace your knobby tires with something more suitable for road riding.

And don't do it to save money on gas, the amount of time it takes you will never be worth the gas you save. Do it for your health, do it because you enjoy it, but don't do it for the gas. :)
