I want a program that shields me from having to know anything about dvd authoring.

I want to take a video file in dang near any common format, realmedia, mpeg, divx, quicktime, etc . . . point the app toward it, and it ask me a few simple questions about quality and such, and it just do it right everytime :)

I also would like a dead simple way to add menus and such to the dvd.

Why would this not exist? Consumers really don't want to have to learn 40 tricks to make a dvd.

If it helps, I don't care if this app can copy movies - this would be for homemade stuff.

if this is for homemade stuff, why the need for realplayer, divx, wmp, quicktime, etc. ?

if you're doing homemade stuff, just capture with your miniDV cam, connect your cam to a firewire port on your rig, boot up VideoStudio 8.0, click capture, edit as you please, click share and output to dvd with menus and chapters. very simple. i've made many dvds of the kids so far, and i'm a complete idiot.

Because when I download stuff or people send funny videos in the email sometimes I'd like to take a 'clip' of it and do like a funny video remix with my own stuff. Like remixing a song.

For instance, those top gear videos, I could take a 5 second clip of it then, show my kid running a race at school or something. . .

Stupid stuff like that.

Hope I make sense. . .

TMPGenc plus and TMPG dvd author are pretty easy to do and can handle any video file you've got a codec for on your PC
