I would like a 24" monitor that is not a TN panel, has very little or no backlight bleeding, has true 8-bit color, and preferable has 92% NTSC color.

Also, I would like the monitor to be around $400. Is there anything like this that you know of?

Thanks in advance!

You just missed out on a hot deal. Soyo 24" LCD P-MVA panel and was on sale at OfficeMax for 300 no rebates.

It looks like 24" are coming down in price so you wont have to wait too long for the next 24" deal.

No...

The best monitor is the BenQ 24" Z

It is truly amazing.

There is no way you are getting a non-TN panel monitor for 400$

P.S. That fantasy world link is hilarious... Laminator you are hilarious

Best 24" monitors I've heard are the Dell 2407WFP, BenQ FP241W, and the LG L246/5WP-BN. Don't expect to pay any bit less than $550 for each...$500 if you're lucky to find a sale.

Thanks! However, the Soyo 24" was indeed confirmed to be PVA or whatever panel and it really was $300 with no rebates. On the other hand, only the Dell 2407WFP-HC covers 92% of the color gamut without being super ridiculously expensive (supposedly NEC makes a 24" IPS).

There are a lot of neat features you get in the mid-range and high-end 24" monitors (BenQ, Dell, etc.) that you don't get in the cheap ones, though, such as 1:1 pixel mapping (this is a deal-breaker for me), HDCP, more inputs, USB ports, adjustable-height stands, and 90-degree swivel. The Dell gives you a flash memory reader. Some of these features are important enough for me that I'd rather pay $550 for a good 24" PVA (Dell HC, BenQ) than $400 for a low-end 24" PVA (Acer, Westinghouse, Soyo).

Yeah, I am currently waiting and hoping for a another Dell Canada sale on the 2407HPC, hopefully in the 549 - 599 CND pricing range. Though the Samsung 245B at 499 standard pricing isn't a bad deal either.

The Samsung 245BW is a TN panel. Samsung does make a pretty good PVA (I've heard it's on par with the BenQ, but there aren't that many reviews of it) called the 244T but it's a lot more expensive.

For $399:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...oduct&id=1170289357971

Although I don't know if it is a TN panel or not. The viewing angles suggest it's not, but the 6ms response time may suggest it is. -_- It would be great if someone could shed some light on this one. Anyways, the LG L246WP-BN is also on sale for $499 on bestbuy.com and from my research, I've concluded it's the best 24" LCD...same panel as the BenQ, but cheaper, with the same AUO module to decrease input lag. It's better than the Dell 2407 as I've heard the Dell has ghosting issues that you won't encounter with the BenQ or LG.

A reported time of 6ms is pretty standard for PVA panels; TN panels would advertise 5ms or lower. The main advantage of the Dell 2407WFP-HC is that it covers 92% of the color gamut - unmatched by any other 24" PVA panel out there, including the BenQ.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does that all mean in a non-technical standpoint? What real life advantages will there be of owning the Dell over the BenQ/LG?

But anyways...if the Acer is indeed an M-PVA panel...here's your chance, OP. ;)

Better colors. Most people wouldn't notice unless they were looking at them side-by-side. The BenQ is supposed to have better overall picture quality but is more expensive by at least $100. The Dell also comes with a built-in flash memory reader and USB ports; the BenQ comes with USB ports and an HDMI input. Both support HDCP.

EDIT: http://www.digitalversus.com/d...5&mo2=189&p2=1815&ph=7

The Dell 2407WFP-HC isn't up there yet, though.

Hi,

I really appreciate this thread, as I too am looking for the perfect 24" monitor. I've been comparing the Samsung 245BW, the LG L246WP-BN, and the NEC LCD2470WNX-BK. My biggest concern is gaming, since I do both MMORPG at home and hard-core killing at LAN parties. My goals are primarily color representation and response time.

At first I thought I would just go with the one that looked the best in the store (I prefer to buy monitors in person so that I can see and test them before buying), but one thing I have read on several occasions is that 24-inch monitors suffer from some kind of delay due to their size. I'm not talking FPS rendered by the box, either, but some other delay in the transmission of the signal to the panel or something. One guy even claimed that he clicked the mouse a little early when playing FPSs because if he clicked when the crosshair touched the target he would be too late. I have a box with an Athlon64 X2 5200+, 2 GB DDR2 800, GeForce 8800 GTS 320 OC, and 10K RPM HDD, running XP Pro. I'm assuming that gaming at 1920 x 1200 would not be a problem with this rig, but the many comments I have seen regarding "24-inch monitor lag" on similar systems is worrying me. I can always just take my 20" monitor to LAN parties if there really is a difference, but my curiosity has been piqued and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you.

I got the Dell 2407WFP-HC a couple of weeks ago and after some initial hiccups I'm really liking it.

The colors are better than my old 2005FPW and with a better refresh rate as well. The hiccup I referred to was image tearing/ghosting over VGA at 1080P with my 360, changing the sharpness from 50 to 30 solved this for me.

If you're willing to wait a bit, there's a darn good chance that you can get a decent monitor for a great price (or a great monitor for a decent price) on black friday.

Wow you are quite knowlegable Laminator... and that is quite an impressive price for a non TN panel.... unfortunately in Canada we don't see such amazing deals. I currently have a 2407 A02, I am thinking about getting the 244T because i can use my player points to get one. Think it is worth getting the 244T or just dish out the money for the BenQ or Dell?

Personally i am leaning more towards the BenQ because of the HDMI input and excellent reviews.. however i have not seen the new dell in action.

I've been checking out that Website that you posted, Laminator, and it's pretty awesome (DigitalVersus). It's got excellent information for several of the monitors I have been looking at, but unfortunately it is lacking the delay measurements for a few of the models I am curious about. It also doesn't have some of the models I was looking at previously.

I'll search for another site which has similar abilities, or at least lists some measurements, but if anyone knows of one would you please post it? I would be most grateful.

Thank you!

PS - The Dell 3007 FPW-HC seems to kick some serious hiney! I am surprised, but pleased since I was originally looking to get more than just a 24".
