Wrote about these D9 problems a lot last year around this time, but I'd say its definitely related to voltage/heat and certain boards/chipsets may induce death sooner than others. I had 2 kits of Ballistix and 1 kit of Buffalo FireStix die on me....I've long since swapped them out for much cooler G.Skill. The older D9's were placed into a backup and I suspect they are starting to flake out again. Anyways, clearly flaky ICs but at the end of the day I was extremely pleased with Crucial's RMA process, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

So an update to an old topic, I recently recieved two new sticks and they seem to be working fine on memtest. The weird thing is they also sent me a third gig which puzzles me.. but whatever. Does 3 gigs of ram work on a PC? It just seems weird having a kit and then another random stick.
 
Sure, just put it in too. 3GB single channel > 2GB dual channel.

Also, DDR2-800 @ 4-4-4-12 is equal to DDR2-1000/1066 @ 5-5-5-15, then DDR3-1333 @ 6-6-6-18, etc.

But how can I determine whats better? Tighter timings or whatnot.. this confused me in the howto overclocking guide.
