Grados are much to shrilly for me, and cause headaches. Sennheisers require a good amp to sound good, otherwise they sound muffled and muted.

Audio-technica ATH-a900

Exactly what I was going to recommend, it fits his budget. I am not sure if it's the best, but it's a damn good deal.

I purchased the Pioneer SE-DIR800C and love them. Best home theater purchase I've made in a long time.

They use Dolby Headphone for surround and the headphones themselves are very nice.

I never heard of these. Do either of you have any reviews on them?

if you want any headphone reviews, go to head-fi. people there have proper gear and better insight then those quasi-autority audio review sites. dont trust reviews unless its from real people :)

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input and also tell you that I purchased the Sennheiser HD595's and they are INCREDIBLE!! Best sound I have ever heard from a headphone!

Thanks again,

I couldn't afford the A900s but I'm awaiting shipment of my A500 set. I'm very excited to hear how they sound. :)

Also take a look at Beyerdynamic DT series. I have the 440 and it is AWESOME, only bad thing is that you have to import them from Europe. Do you research at head-fi.
