My main uses will be gaming and tv/movie watching. HDMI is a must as well.

22 or 23 inches is preferred.

I am extremely pleased with the Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 LED monitor which is 23". It is super thin, saves power, absolutely SUPERB color (100% sRGB color gamut), great response time, but limited to 60Hz. It can be found under $350 quite easily.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody else have any others? I'd like to have a few to compare.

I have the Dell U2410 and love it. The U2209 also looks to have pretty good reviews. It's an IPS panel I believe.

The LED panel mentioned above is really nice. They are great for gaming and movies directly on. If you are doing a single monitor setup and never really look at your monitor at off angles they are great.

You might be surprised--I sure was--but my monitor has absolutely superb viewing angles for a TN panel (pretty sure it is twisted nematic). I can take pictures if you'd like. It's one of the best TN panels I've ever seen or owned.

Update:
Meh, poor lighting, but still you should get a slight decent idea: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v329/marsbound2024/?action=view&current=2010-04-14221149.jpg

Hey oh! I just picked up the same monitor for 310 at worst buy two weeks ago. I agree with everything you said, but my only gripe is the small amount of backlight bleeding in the lower right hand corner. Apparently this fairly common on this monitor (and most LED monitors), and usually shows up in the same place.

I first tried the LG led monitor with similar specs. There wasn't any backlight bleeding, but the ghosting was awful and had a terribad blue hue that couldn't be corrected. This samsung is claimed to have a 2ms response time. Certainly not accurate, but significantly more sharp than the LG in games. The sharpness in BC2 was the first thing I noticed.

This is a TN panel, but I had to settle. I waited for a cheaper IPS panel for 6-8 months and there's nothing on the horizon.

The stand on this monitor is kinda crappy, but it is aesthetically pleasing. No height adjustment, but there is till adjustment. Also, the stand doesn't sit my monitor perfectly horizontal, so I added some cork feet to the left side to even things out. If you can get past the minor backlight bleeding and stand limitations, I have no hesitations recommending this monitor. It's picture quality was quite a bit better than the other TN panels I saw on display.

As always, factory settings were sear-your-eyeballs crap; calibrate at http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

Increase your budget just a little bit, and grab the ZR24W for about $400. It's a brand new model with an IPS panel and similar to the Dell U2410.

It's also a 16:10 ratio, which I strongly prefer over 16:9 for most computer uses (except movies maybe).

From what I can see, that monitor doesn't have HDMI, which is a must.

I had the same problem initially but very carefully re-attached the monitor to the base and it is fine. Just have a look at how the neck of the stand sits with the base. Rechecking with a spirit level shows it is completely level whereas before there was a clear tilt even though it appeared that I had attached the base accurately.

Hey, thanks for the tip man! I'm going to try it out right now.

edit: And welcome to the forums. :)

edit2: Well I disconnected the cables, took off base, and reseated it, but the lean is still present. I was very careful to align the notches in the stand with the neck of the monitor. It seems the lean/ sag I'm experiencing is coming from the ball joint where the monitor should only tilt. I can gently nudge the left side up to parallel but it just falls back down. A minor pain in the arse, but I'm not worried about it since the problem is still fixed w/ cork feet.

How does this compare to the HP LP2475w? It's $150 cheaper and I was under the impression the U2410 was a fair bit better than the LP2475w.
