So I have around $250-$300 to spend on
Speakers and A/V Receiver

Olevia 247tfhd
Xbox 360 or Ps3
HDDVD A2

and thats it

I would like something that maximizes sound for that budget.

You're stuck with a HTiB at that price point...it would be tough to get even a quality 2.0 setup at that price point. I would try to get my budget up to $400. Then the upper Onkyo HTiBs become doable.

The Onkyo 605 refurb from ShopOnkyo for $299 was the cheapest one I think I've seen. (Normally ~$400)

R300s are ok for basic floorstanders. If you're going to end up spending $300-$400 on just the receiver though, it would be a more balanced system with higher quality speakers.

what is DD 1.5 mbs?

Are you talking about the difference between Toshiba A2's conversion of HD audio formats down to DTS 1.5 and the Toshiba A3's conversion of HD audio formats down to DD 640k?

The former what? Use more words.

If you were talking about my post, I only made one question, not two, so I don't know what "former" means.

I mentioned DTS 1.5 and DD 640k

You asked about DD 1.5

What are you talking about?

actually, what receiver would allow me to receive DTS 1.5?
is the difference from 1.5 to DTH noticable?

Ok... well the Toshiba A3 converts HD audio to DD 640k and the A2 converts HD audio to DTS 1.5

Any modern receiver should be able to get you the DTS signal, but if you have the A3, that's not what it's outputting unless there's a DTS 1.5 track on the actual disc.

As for DTS vs. HD-audio, I wouldn't know, I'm behind the times :p
