came across this forum trying to build my new machine and noticed there are lots of great minds here. Maybe you guys can help me some in my quest for that nice powerful workstation
I am looking to build a new workstation that is mainly used for
a) Programming
b) PhotoShop and other photo related programs
c) Probably some DV editing in the near future
So essentially i would need a speedy system with 1 or 2G ram. Should have firewire (can be added easily of course) and USB2. Video card should be geared towards photoshop not so much for gaming. This means true colors and a card that performs well in 2D applications. Should also allow multi monitor support.
As for HD's i only need a base drive (120G or so) as i already have a cluster of SCSI drives that will be used for the main storage.
I already started to look around but it seems to be a zoo right now with all the different mobo's and ram types and ...
So what do you suggest, Intel or AMD, what mobo, what memory, video card, HD, and also if possible where to get them for a good price. Again i am not looking for a cheap system but rather a high performance system for a decent price.
Other pieces i already have that will be used with this system are external Sony DVD writer (firewire), external Seagate 120G firewire/usb2 HD and Wacom Intuos 9x12. It will hook up to my network 10/100 and use a Kodak8500, an Epson 1280, a HP4000 and a QMS Magicolor 330 for printing and replace one of my current workstations that is too old to even mention (PIII/800).
Things such as soundcards are not important but if you have a good deal for a decent card i wouldnt mind hearing it too.
In the meantime i will try to sift through all the info on here to see what i can find.
