Looking for specific type of cloud file storage...please help.

I'm in need of a cloud file storage solution that allows a user to work with files in a cached state, not forcing them to sync the files locally. This service would also need to be compatible with Server 2008R2.

To better explain myself, any current cloud storage service I know of currently will have you install an application which monitors a specific folder on your hard drive. Anytime a file is changed or added there, it syncs up to the cloud. This requires a local copy. I want a user to be able to see a list of their files in the cloud, then double-click to open one, which would pull down a cached copy. Any saves to that file would then be automatically put back into the cloud. No local copy needed, similar to how SkyDrive will work in Windows 8.1.

Anybody know of a service that would do this?

Anything and everything, but realistically, Office/PDF mostly. Will Google Drive allow you to use these files in a cached mode outside of their web-based applications?

You can map drives to the current version of Skydrive, just map to https://d.docs.live.net/@SSL/DavWWWRoot/USERID

It mounts your "cloud" drive and you open the files like any other file, it is just stored on your Bitcasa Infinite Drive. It stores copies in a cache and uploads the changes as you make them to the cloud.

You can either let Bitcasa manage the cache or you can manually set the space allocation it uses.

Unfortunately, there's a lot involved in the background of my initial question that makes Sharepoint not ideal. It's enough to make any IT guy roll their eyes.

Sounds great, but I see no mention of Server 2008 R2 support. I'll keep this one in mind, though, thanks.

Why not use Skydrive and map to it via Windows Explorer instead of using the application.
