I have a group of buddies who we will be going on a trip this summer ideally we would like to do some sort of 2-4 day trip on a canoe or raft with camping and fun in between. Or Rent a houseboat. Somewhere in the midwest.

Anyone have any ideas of where about to look?

I know there is a houseboat trip that you can do in Kentucky. My friends went on it and I heard it was awesome!

Houseboating is supposed to be awesome on the Ozark Lakes (not sure on the spelling). We were talking about planning that same trip with some friend for this or next summer.

Just find a good Level 3-4 white water rapids river and do that. You'll have a blast.

Missourri has great canoeing rivers.

If you really want a crazy adventure, I mean, completely off the scale awesome, trek out to West Virginia (you can overnight the car trip . . . and its worth it). the Gauley River. best time is the fall when they open teh dam . . . . they might have a spring season too, though.

Anyway, Its probably the craziest rafting you can do without putting yourself in serious danger. Lots of class 5+ rapids (hooo-boy!) but, while they are all crazy wild, none of them spell doom if you fall out. You might need to swim your ass off to put yourself out of harms way, but I was in a group of 20 or so people and there were no major injuries . . .

well, honestly, one guy broke his toe, and another guy had to be evacuated but turns out he wasn't hurt that bad. Their raft flipped at the very head of a 5+, and they were trying to drag him in (standard procedure is to grab the lift vest and haul the guy up over the side). The life vest serves a double purpose . . floats you and armors you. Anywho, when they tried to pull him in the vest slid up and exposed his abdomen, and he was unlucky enough to catch a large rock in the breadbasket. They were worried about internal bleeding so they evacuated him, but he was fine. You shouldn't worry.

Its amazing fun, when you fall in you are swimming like crazy to stay out of the bad parts of the river, when you don't you are paddling like crazy to do the same while not falling in.

Heh, one of the class 5's was a series of 4 major sections with little lulls in the middle. I was in a small boat (4 + guide) and the boat behind us (6+guide) capsized on the first section, so we hauled as many guys in as we could fit and wound up almost going over a fall 15 feet down onto rocks because we entered the second section in bad position and way overweight. Good times.

Heh, I've got a video of the trip (company we used sent a guyin a kayack ahead with a camcorder, he set up and filmed us at the major rapids. Lots of funny footage in there.

yeah, but thats my recommendation.

(edit: I had never rafted before, most of the guys on the trip were new to it.)
