Hey guys, I was hoping for some help between 2 laptop systems I'm trying to choose. I'm wondering what the limitations between a last gen and current i7 system would be.
I have it narrowed down between 2 systems. An Alienware system and an ASUS ROG system. The best price I found for the alienware is $1,379 on Newegg. I found the ASUS $1,568 on B&H. On paper, the ASUS looks like the better deal, but the processor is a last gen i7, so I wonder how that would hinder the performance of the unit. Does anybody have any insight that would make this purchase a little clearer for me? I really wanted a 980m card for the extra gig of ram, but I know that a newer processor sometimes outweighs the performance drawbacks of a card with less vram. Any suggestion is welcome. I always wanted an Alienware growing up, which is why I gravitated towards the former, but I've been watching reviews on other ROG ASUS laptops, and they look pretty good as well. I'm not worried about the price difference so much, I just want to know if the ASUS would be worth it with an older cpu. This is probably going to be my main unit for 4 or 5 years, so I want to make sure I grab the right one. Thanks, guys!
