Looking for some good active noise-cancelling headphones.

I know that there are a million headphone threads, but I would rather not sift through the vast sea of them looking for headphones that are active noise cancelling or not. My budget it up to $150. I am not interesting in the Bose Tri-Port headphones, and I could spend another $150 and get the Bose QuietComfort 2 headphones, but I just can't spend that kind of money. Any "wrong forum" and "repost" Nazis are welcome to chime in, but any actual advice is appreciated.

Here are a couple I have been looking at seriously:

Altec Lansing AHP-712i ($80.00)
Sony MDR-NC50 ($150)

Update:

I ended up getting the sony 'phones, and they are terrible. I am getting god awful feedback in my left channel. I'm going to go with the Sennheiser HD-280, I am not interested in active noise cancelling anymore. These Sonys are going back!

Head-Fi has a good thread on this. If you hold on a sec, I'll find you the link.

edit: found the link. It was actually at HeadWize

edit: bah, nevermind. I missed the noise cancelling part of your topic

Yeah, I was going to say that I couldn't find anything about noise-cancelling in that thread 🙂 Thank you though 🙂

i've learned these threads never really do that well. You might get one or two constructive replies, but that pretty much covers it.
if you haven't already, try newegg. Their site is pretty easy and convenient to navigate, espcially when looking for certain brands or characteristics (like noise cancelling)

Then compare the product reviews with amazon, and that should give you a fair idea of the product.

Me personally, i wouldn't know about noise cancelling. I just bought a set of seinheisser 201's for $21.

 i got them last month, they are great. but not exactly what OP is looking for.

I think I am going to go with the Sony headphones. From what I have read, they are really good. I looked on eBay and found some alright looking deals where I can get them in an open box for $100 shipped. However, I may end up buying them from Amazon just so I can be sure of quality and that they are working...

Thanks for the help you provided vrbaba. I appreciate it 🙂

You'll love 'em. Sennheiser cans are great.
