<< carmina burna - carl orff >>

Ahh.. another good call. Most of Danzig's "Black Aria" has the same type of sound/feel to it.

try sidestepping to the dark-metal genre: industrial!
a lot of it is electronic these days, but still.

e.g.

skinny puppy

Ahh yes, Dimmu Borgir. They are very dark.

Skyclad1uhm1: I never said I wanted "depressing" music, just "dark" music. Dimmu Borgir is a good example, with their harmony of the guitars and strings offers a chillingly evil atmosphere.

killface: "classical music made for hell" sounds interesting indeed! My curiosity is piqued!

bigalt: Skinny Puppy is also a good example. Slugwrench Love in Vein Remix is so creepy... I love it 🙂

To everyone: I shall download all these songs later tonight I think. Thanks for the suggestions.

The movie music to "Paris, Texas", by Ry Cooder, is full of brooding, portentious slide guitar that sound ominous. The intro is especially striking.

Ooooh, I am listening to Therion - The Rise of Sodom abd Gomorrah. So dark, so evil, so..... delicious. I love it 🙂 I think it is written in "Diabolus en Musica" (or something like that... One of Slayer's albums is titled that- its a type of rhythm or something that just naturally feels dark and creepy to most people)

Black Aria is excellent! Glad some other people know of it.

Other albums -
Bloody Kisses album by Type O Negative (specifically the songs Black #1 and Christian Woman)
Machines of Loving Grace

<< Sigur Ros! >>

Yummy, but Sigur Ros isn't really dark music. But if you want to go along those lines, then:

Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Lycia
Bethany Curve
The Cure (early stuff)
Joy Division
Comsat Angels
The Chameleons UK

Dark? Evil? I find it to be a rather... pleasant song, nothing creepy about it.

Perhaps it's just me who's dark and evil 😛

BTW, try Evereve - Misery's Dawn

To everyone who has suggested stuff: Listen to the song "Spiel Mit Mir" by Rammstein. The "chugg" of the guitars and the keyboards add up to make it quite evil IMO. Tell me what you think.

Elledan: I honestly dont see how you can think of it as pleasant. It is incredibly good, but pleasant is not a word I would use. To me it just has an atmosphere of darkness and despair. Perhaps it is I who is dark and evil 🙂 .... Well, actually the beginning is very cheerful sounding, although around 1:07 or so it starts to acquire its evil sound. I think its just the "gallopping" quality of the music that has that effect on me. You know, it sounds almost like an engine trying to turn over. You can feel it striving to the top, falling, then trying a little more, reaching, and then falling back to the bottom. ..... Or at least thats how it seems to me.

I've heard that song a couple of times. It's quite... creepy, if you get me 🙂

I'll download it again. Haven't heard it for a while, so I can't make a fair judgement.

In that case I'm just... evil 😀

I find it a most pleasant song, not dark or evil in any way. Much like 'The Birth of Venus Illegitima', actually.

Okay, so I'm weird. Bite me 😛

[edit]: for a dark and 'evil' song by Therion, listen to 'Ship of Luna'. It's about as 'evil' as things go 🙂

The second movement of Beethoven's 7th.
Night on Bald Mountain - Mussorgsky
Black Mass (sonata #9) - Scriabin
The Sentenced

Hmm, I have noticed a recurring pattern. The same drum beat found in the intro of "Am I Evil?" (covered by Metallica; not sure who did original version) is also found in many of Therion's songs: it is almost the same in "Rise of Sodom..." and I hear portions of it in "Ship of Luna" as well. Interesting. Seems to be a commonly-thought evil beat. 🙂

Metallica? Is that something like... *vomits* pop? :disgust:😛😀

Nah, I've never heard that song of Metallica, so I wouldn't know. I only know that "The Rise of Sodom... " makes me feel really happy 🙂

You guys who mentioned Skinny Puppy were close.. but you missed these:

The Sisters of Mercy (IMHO the undisputed kings of Dark and Foreboding music)
Sisterhood
Moev ("Crucify Me")
Bauhaus

I'm sure there's more, but it's 3:15am and it's hard to think about it..

i'm certain you'll like some songs of: The sins of thy beloved. Two songs I just listened to were 'Silent Pain' and 'Until the Dark'. Awesome songs 🙂

Misery's Dawn isn't depressing btw, just downloaded it and found it quite uplifting. Or maybe I'm just too depressed to notice it.
