Looking for software that will strip commercials from MPG files.

how do you suppose it would be able to do this automatically ? There are fade-ins and fade-outs during the shows too.

As for mpeg editors that let you do this rather easily, but manually... TMPEGenc (MPEG Tools) or Womble MPEG Wizard.

My bud loves this software because it can cut out commercials out of an Mpeg without re-encoding the whole thing. It says it can do it automatically, but I would preview the spots it identifies...

how do these programs know when a commercial starts and when the show begins again, etc?

i don't know if it is the only way they detect commercials, but there is usually a noticeable jump in volume when you get to a commercial. there are probably other means as well.

Yep. VideoRedo is one of the main programs I use to do editing for that simple fact. I highly recommend it, although it's not that good at removing commercials automatically. I just do it manually.
