looking for reputable auto mechanic in Boston

Hi guys,

first off, thanks for all previous replies-much appreciated!
Currently I am looking for a reputable auto mechanic in the Boston area to help diagnose my problems with car starting detailed in this link

any suggestions?

thanks!

Check some of the Honda forums online...usually someone who knows a Honda like it's his own tool can tell you what's wrong. 😀

If memory serves correctly, however, the guys on that NPR show CARTALK have a garage somewhere in the Boston area. I know they broadcast from Harvard Square, or their offices are somewhere near there.

If all else fails, check the AAA website for a listing of "certified" car mechanics, or if anything else doesn't work go by simple word of mouth.

Edit: What do you mean by "ignition system?" Have you had your packs, wires, and plugs checked/replaced? Get a check on your battery, starter, and alternator at Autozone...it's free.

I do know where not to go to in Boston. Avoid places like Bernardi, Herb Chambers, and many of the shops that also mod cars (especially RPM Racing).

BTW, your sig is still wrong. Homer said that as he was buring his high school diploma (which also set the wall on fire).

Yeah what gave you the impression that Ralph ever said that? :frown: @ you from a Simpsons fan

Go back to Greektown and bring some of those... what do they call them.... gyros....

guys
thanks for reply...

Sorry, I never got around to fixing the signature...until now.

Also- I guess you were talking about this quote? =)

Police chief Wiggum: Put out an A.P.B on Uosdwis R Dewoh, better start with greek town!
Detective: That's Homer J Simpson chief! You're reading it upside down.
Police chief Wiggum: Err.. cancel that A.P.B! But err bring back some of them errm giro's!
Detective: Eh, chief.. You're talking into your wallet!

also in reply-

I haven't had much checked out on the car. Every time I've been to a dealer to get the problem looked at (2 or 3 documented times so far), it's always been some form of "cannot duplicate customer's complaints". The problem is, I don't know what I should specifically ask the mechanic to look for-so the problem remains.

I was also told that if I contacted Honda directly after a certain number of attempts at problem resolution (under warranty), they should send out a mechanic to look at the problem directly?

Look up Click and Clack, the Car Talk guys! I imagine they are very fair to deal with - I gather they are in Cambridge somewhere.

Otherwise, I always use AAA for mechanic referrals - they only refer to mechanics who are not scam artists.

Any ideas?

thx...

I found it:

Good News Garage, 75 Hamilton St, Cambridge, MA. 617-354-5383

thanks Don_Vito for reply!!!! I will definitely keep this address in mind...

I am going to get honda to look at this one last time (under the lemon law), and if they still can't find the problem, i'll shell out and get the problem fixed at the Good News Garage....

will keep everyone posted.
thanks again!

guys,

a possibly related thought (i don't know why i didn't mention this earlier): i am getting sh***y gas mileage as well; I have never broken 30mpg, even with properly inflated tires and cruise-control highway driving. perhaps this "symptom" may be related to the symptom of not being able to start properly?

😱

I live on the coast of Connecticut, I chose Michigan in my profile to screw with people's heads.

I you want to travel a few hours to have your vehicle properly maintained and fixed, I am not going to stop you.

Be forewarned, the traffic between you and I is not pleasant.

Regarding your other thread, there are several possibilities ;

1)Out of range temp sensor

2)Low fuel pressure

3)Ignition problem

4)EGR problem

5)E.C.M. needs recalibration (this is easy, with the key removed from the ignition, disconnect the negative battery cable, wait 10 minutes, reattach, start vehicle and drive it normally for 25 minutes)

Once warmed up, does the vehicle operate in a normal fashion ?

The proper way to diagnose your problem is to attach a noid light to your injector harness and watch for injector firing upon the first revolution of the engine, once this is confirmed, then the fuel pressure must be checked, if these two are fine, I would suspect an ignition problem.
This procedure can be done by you without a noid light, carefully remove the intake tube from the throttle body, spray a shot of either into it, reattach tube and start vehicle, if it immediately starts or starts and dies, you know you have a fuel management problem.

I am going to take a break from posting for awhile, maybe I'll see you clowns at the end of summer, take it easy and have a good one 🙂

Roger's shop is on the east coast, but I am not sure where.

Roger, I believe is in Michigan
1000 miles west of where you are.

Roger is from Connecticut.

My fault - I trusted Roger's profile. 😱

1. Check spark plugs/wires
2. Dump in a bottle of Techron (a injector cleaner, expensive but very highly recommended) on a full tank
3. Check fuel filter

There's a bunch of other stuff you can do, like switch brands of gas, etc...not exactly sure at the moment, trying to get my mileage up as well.
