My parents have a computer w/ cable access and i need a sucure remote software to help them w/ configuation and stuff. I live far from them and plus they arent too computer savy to understand what i tell them so, i was looking for a remote software to do all the stuff remotely from here. I searched the web and found lots, but no review site or ratings of these software. I have known about pcanywhere for a long time, but for some reason i want to avoid them.

I would like some input on what you guys use and recommend. thks

BTW, the documentation on their site should be enough to get you started. Setting it up in Win32 is especially easy, but feel free to post with any questions.

Also, if you're looking to spend a little money, Timbuktu is another good cross platform application like PCA and VNC. I personally think Timbuktu is more responsive in a high bandwidth environment (ie. 10Mbit+ LAN), but VNC also works just fine and is free.

Amen.. I have VNC installed on 60+ PC's throughout the country on our WAN/VPN to work on PC's when I can't be there. It's also my solution for helping my family members since I live in another state. Go for it!

VNC has no inherent security though, does it? Shouldn't you tunnel that inside SSH or similar?

IIRC, VNC just has password encryption, but it would be very difficult for someone to intercept your session and "recreate" mouse movements / keyboard strokes. And yes, it is possible to tunnel via SSH. There are some pretty good instructions on the site.
