Looking for Remote Desktop application

I need a relativly simple program that allows me to remotly view my desktop over the internet. I dont need anything fancy just a way for me to check the status of my downloads while im at school or to check my email etc.

It would be nice if it were just a stand alone executable that does not need to be intalled or make registry entries since the PC's at school would not allow it.

Freeware would be nice but if no good ones exist then trial software would do.

If you've got XP Pro, remote desktop is simple enough.

UltraVNC is another free solution that works well. You'd have to install the server on your desktop, and then a VNC viewer to access it. I believe there are some VNC clients that are standalone and can be run off a USB drive, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the advice any good standalone VNC clients I should try?

Also found out my school as software called called Putty dunno how to use it, I would like to use the simplist option however.

Thanks!

I was using VNC for a while (tight? not sure the specific one) and noticed like a TON of what I can only guess are hack attempts -- invalid logins from unknown IPs in event viewer. I finally pulled VNC as my use was more recreational and not productivity driven -- was I being overly paranoid or what. And I'm talking a LOT of attempts -- maybe like 200+ /day and often where 1 IP could try over a period of days.
