I'm fairly a n00b when it comes to motherboards and so forth so pretty much I'm just going to lay out some specs and hope that somebody can recommend me some good mobos to look at... I built a computer a while back w/ a K7S5A mobo and recently RMAd the mobo, and am going to get money back for it since it burned out when I tried to flash the BIOS... so, I'm going to be getting a new one... the processor is a 1.4 ghz T-Bird.. id prefer plain old SDRAM (already have 512MB) but will consider DDR... video card is a dual display radeon ve... a capture card/firewire card will be used on it... what other components do you need??

oh yes, and price range = up to 150$.. maybe up to 200$ if its worth it.. thanks in advance....

edit: thought id add some info that might be sorta important... so, there will be no overclocking done w/ this mobo, the HD is a WD 30GB, generic sound card.... dunno what else... will add if needed..

Check out pricewatch under motherboards and the via kt266a chipset (use the search feature if you don't see it listed). Newegg also sells refurbished boards with 30 day warranty. They had a shuttle ak31a for only $45 shipped. Some new boards are going for only $59, but all use ddram. Ddram is available for as little as $36 shipped; my local pc shop has micron 256 meg pc2100 for only $42. So, you may be able to upgrade for a little over $100. I would go with gigabyte, shuttle, or epox for value and features.

hey brudda 🙂 If you really want to keep your SDRAM then the MSI K7T TURBO2 for 65$@Newegg is a good choice and supports up to an 1800+ XP.

sup man... its a good mobo?? i really have no clue about them at all.. so, i bought the K7S5A (back in october) because supposedly it was a really good mobo for the price.. yet it wasnt nearly as stable as i was lookin for.. so ill look into the msi k7t turbo2 though.. just gon read some reviews and so forth....

edit: btw this computer is for somebody else, not for myself... they opted not to upgrade to DDR after i asked them and told them the differences...
