Looking for recommendation of a cheap PDA!

I am having increasing difficulty keeping track of my various appointments/meetings. the cheapest thing for me would be to just keep a meeting diary or something but despite several atttempts thats not really worked for me (just not my thing).

I am considering buy a cheap PDA to help out. The functionality i am looking for is long battery life, auto reminders (<--very important as i forget to lookup my list, must have a reminder pop up), contact list (ph#, some personal info about the contact etc) and recording appointement times and details.

Currently i use Yahoo mails calendar for stuff like Bday reminders and some work related stuff that i have to do on regular basis (for example a report that must be run at quarter end etc) but its not cutting it with higher workload (it takes too long to set up an appointement therefore i use yahoo for repetitive appointments/events only).

Ease of entry of data is important (user friendly GUI a must). Recording sort audio comments/remiders (if possible) would be a bonus!

Thanks

Akaz

EDIT: Wanted to add that also need the ability to have multiple reminders like 1 days ahead of time then another one an hour ahead of time and so on!

Can't really speak to the Dell's and people preferences for different PDA's can be just as contentious as Intel vs. AMD, so be forewarned.

That being said. Amazon.com has $25 MIR on Sony Clie PDA's.

So you can get an SJ20 with 16MB of RAM (more than you'll ever need unless you game), a fantastic screen for the price (B&W) and rechargeable batteries for $149.99 - $25MIR = $124.99 with free shipping. Plenty of bundled software (I am assuming the traditional bundled Palm OS features can handle everything you are asking for). One negative on the Clie's, no Hot Sync Cradel. You need to HotSync with a USB cable. Personally, I don't mind, but some like the cradle.

We have 5 Axim X5 400Mhz at work, and everyone loves them (just don't go with a sandisk sd card).
They run from around $180 (refurb 300mhz) to $315 (new 400mhz); some places you can get them cheaper. Really nice device.

If you want "really cheap", and just for appointments, calenders, etc. Then you should check out the 99 dollar Palm Zire's. Otherwise, the most powerful PDA for the money would be the Dell Axim X5. The 300MHz /32MB model is around 250, which normally comes with a 50 dollar mail in rebate, bringing the price down to around 200. The 400MHz/64MB model is 350, and with mail in rebate will set you back 300 or so.

i've got a handspring visor deluxe i no longer use that i've been itching to get rid of. pm me if interested

Okay i am pretty much decided on Palm m500. My brother uses it and likes it and its cheap enough for me.

Anyone here have personal experience with it?

it seems your needs are pretty simple so I would stick to the PALM PDA.

The pocket PC''s are horrible at battery life you are going to have to charge them every 1-2 days depending on usage.

The palm pda's usually every 2 weeks.

The pocket PC has more functionality though e.g mp3 ect.

For day to day stuff I would stick to a PALM device Lighter, longer battery life, snappier inetrface.

My experience with a pocketpc is sort of tainted since I got a free HP Jornada (133mhz) and its not the quickest pocketpc in the world😀
when I play a mp3 everything grinds to a halt. Aslo I have had a couple of windows type Hangups kind of like windows 95 98 days.

I have been looking at the del AXIMS and they look pretty sweet (400mhz) maybe I can take it off my taxes sonce its work related.

peace
