Looking for prog to display system specs on desktop

I did a search already and couldn't find what I was looking for, but then again, searching for the words "desktop and specs" comes up with a lot of results not related to what I'm looking for.

Aside from the oddly worded condensed message title, let me explain what I'm looking for:

Many years ago, as an intern for another company, on the random chance that I had to actually administrate one of the servers from the server room, I noticed that most of the servers's desktops displayed many important system specs on the desktop. I'm unsure if this was an active script running or if someone just typed it out by hand and slapped it on the desktop.

What I'm looking for is a nice little program that is clean, simple, yet effective in ACTIVELY displaying system specs. These are for a few servers that I'm administrating and while using the same display console to switch between them I want to quickly inspect the current state of the computer (i.e. core speed, temps, available physical memory, etc.)

Now I have downloaded a program called Samurize and used it. It's not a bad program, but it's more for the type of users who are looking for slick graphical displays. I'm just looking for text and maybe a few bars, and a program with very low overhead to occupy the desktop.

Hopefully some of you can offer good suggestions for the type of program I'm looking for. Thanks in advance. :)

look for bginfo. I make a system.bgi (has all the saved setting) and then I put a shortcut to BGinfo with lots of switches into the startup menu, using the system.bgi file and not having the timer window pop up. I love it for our test lab.

This has got to be one of the nicer ones.

You already tried Samurize but keep in mind that there are millions of different setups for it and you can create your own fairly easily.

Thanks for the replies guys! All of those are pretty neat programs. CoolMon may actually be what I had seen before. The screenshots on it's website look just like what I saw before. I hadn't looked much into Samurize configs, but I'll take a look at that as well. :)
