I want to get a laser printer shortly (B&W). I have seen several good deals in the previous weeks in basically 3 printers:

Brother 1440
Samsung ML-1710
Minolta 1250W

They have been advertised (each at different times) on sale for $99 after rebates. If you have a coupon for an office store, the final price has been even lower.

Being a low volume user, one of these babies should work perfectly. However, I am confused as which one of the 3 could be the best bet.

Printer would be used on win2K/XP. mostly text with some graphics in ocasions. Which one would you suggest?? Any special feature that makes you give a vote for an specific printer, such as PS or memory expandability??? Any user that can share his/her comments??

Thanks

Alex

I've also been looking at these. I think I am going to go with the Samsung for $79 AR at OfficeDepot. All of the reviews I've read have been pretty positive, and it seems like the best overall deal.

I've had the old Samsung ML-1210 for a couple of years now. No problems. I'm happy.

Samsung.

It's dirt cheap, I've seen it for as low as $100 after rebates.:)

The Minolta and Samsungs are cheaper. But the HL-1440 we got works well, except when you print graphics on high res (it prints out a 2nd page telling you that it used a lower res mode because of not enough memory).

Even when it scales the res down from 1200x600, it still looks good. Of the Minolta and Samsung, I read that one sucks for graphics, but I forgot which. If you're doing text only, it shouldn't matter.

I've had my Samsung ML-1430 for more than a year now and loving it.

Much faster than my inkjet, have a good inkjet for photos.

Be aware on the Brother printers when it comes time to replace the drum unit, It costs quite a bit.

Yep, it's actually cheaper to just buy another 1440 unit in this case, harvest the drum and toner, then sell the empty shell on ebay.

Another vote for the Samsung ML-1710. Picked mine up for $85 after coupon and mail in rebate. Works great, quiet, good quality text, fast. Also have enjoyed my now discontinued Lexmark E210 for over a year, still on the starter cartridge (Got it for $80 after coupon and rebate at Staples)
