I have $160 budget MAX. (including shipping, tax) (and a geforce3 would b nice at $99 but bb keeps getting sold out) (i'm mainly a gamer n currently my average fps in half-life is 40 me want better)

I've narrowed it down to these

A herc geforce2 ti 64mb w/tvout ($140)
Ati radeon 7500 64mb w/ tvout ($145)

Or does anyone reccomend anything better?

and whats the difference between a geforce 2 titanium and a geforce2 ultra?

or should i just get a visiontek xtascy gts-v for $65 and a turtle beach santa cruz soundcard??

i dunno, i'm a n00b

thx

You could probably find a nice GF2 GTS Pro in your price range. For about $175-185 (not far out of your budget) you can get a GF3 Ti200. I love mine;)

there are several gefore 3 TI200s out there for about your price range, just gotta keep looking,
Question for you, what is your current computer setup, you might be more cpu limited than vid card limited.

since you are a gamer and fps matter...

I wouldn't get anything less then GF3 ti or radeon 8500...That being said wait and scrape up about 20-30 more bucks (sell old vid card here at anandtech) and you can get either card for that price...though most likely an oem ati card though...

It looks as if your a bit more CPU limited than vid card limited, if i were you i would push my mobo to the limit with a newer cpu and keep the geforce for a while, with a better cpu that baby should give ya much better performance. That is unless your using a BX chipset board, then you are probably FSB limited, and may want to get a new mobo as well as cpu.

I agree you are abit cpu limited...anything geforce pro or greater will be underutilised with that cpu...

Hence upgradeing to a 800 or greater cpu will give a bit more life to the card, ultimately you are got in a difficult spot of each upgrade will tax the other to point of limiting its effectiveness...

BUy a 900mhz duron or greater with say a ecs mobo or shuttle kt266a mobo for that 160 bucks (can still use sdram with ecs mobo)...the board will offer great future upgradeability plus 900mhz duron should work will with a card of up to gts or gf2 pro status...

Just my two cents....
