Hey,

So i just got a new HDTV and of course i now need a new stupid DVD player with progressive scan output since my old Panasonic DVD-A120 has component outs but no progressive out.

Anyway, i don't want to spend more than $150 for the new player (since i already have a good dvd player to begin with...grrrr)

If possible, a 5 disc dvd changer looks appealing (since they don't seem to be that much more $$ than single disc players...plus i could use another 5 disc changer in my system)

Just looking for opinions. Thanks

Panasonic RP62 will give you a very smooth picture. Excellent deinterlacer in that baby, a very smooth film-like picture. The Panny XP30 is also good.

I think the RP62 is around $150-$170 US at the big box stores, but can't confirm it being a canuck.

I'm in the same boat too. There was a highly recommended one I recall that had a Faroujda chip inside. Anyone remember what brand and model it was?

anyone else?

also, do you have any experience with that RP62 as far as the feature that let's you "expand" a widescreen pic to fill a 4:3 aspect ratio tv screen (i.e. to get rid of the black bars) ?

Man if you could still find a Panasonic RP82 you should grab it. You might still be available online in the US, they have disappeared in Canada. Check this out for a progressive scan shootout, it should have all the info you will ever need.

What kind of HDTV did you get? If its internal scaler is decent enough, you may not even need a progressive scan DVD player.

But, like somebody already mentioned, the Panny RP82 is probably the best affordable player out there (if you can find it)...

I got the Samsung TXM3296HF

it doesn't have a 3:2 pulldown internally, so i'm assuming i'll need a progressive dvd player.

it's just a 32 inch HDTV

I have a Sony DVP-NC655P which is a 5-disc player w/prog. scan. Great player, better than my old Panasonic 5 disc player whose model number escapes me at the moment. Think the Sony is still running around $200 though.
