Just curious if anyone knows any good turn based strategy games that have been released in the last year that are worth mentioning. Heck, even some newer RTS games would be nice. Thanks.

Alpha Centauri is awesome. I like it more than Civilization.

However, it would probably be hard to find.

As for new, check out Rome: Total War. TBS/RTS combined.

Some squad-level turn-based tactical games with RPG elements:

Jagged Alliance 2 is a little older, but excellent, and there is a huge user mod / total conversion called Urban Chaos (see JA-Galaxy)

Fallout Tactics wasn't nearly as good as Fallout 1 - 2 or Jagged Alliance but was still a fun turn-based game

Silent Storm is fun and visually nifty (in 3D instead of 2D isometric) but combat and the RPG elements to me just aren't as good as JA2.

Alpha Centauri for a game that's almost identical to Civilization II, only it's in space. Lords of the Realm II is also really great, but is different than most. When you're taxing the serfs, building an army, and hauling resources it's all turn based, but once you go into battle you fight in real time similar to Warcraft I.

I really liked SMAC back in the day.. Maybe I should fire it up again and give it another look.
