Looking for New Laptop. With 13" less screen, but supports native 1280x1024

Hey,

Im looking to purchase a nice slim, and light (thats the important bit) laptop.

The one I am leaning towards is the toshiba portege 2000.

The only thing thats wrong wit it, is that the screen is default 1024x768. I require 1280x1024!! :Q

So basically, are there any laptops, that are just as light as the toshiba? and with a small screen and support 1280x1024.

Note: I don't want a heavy big screen laptop (14" or 15") as I have already one of those, and its too heavy to carry around!

I don't know too much about it...but i really haven't seen 13.3 inch flatpannels that can run native at that size before....so i guess you could be out of luck.....
 
Sorry, I think you're out of luck. Running 1280x1024 on a 13" screen isn't going to be such a good idea anyway. You're going to be needing glasses (or a different perscription 🙂 ) fairly quickly from reading the itty bitty text.
 
There ain't too many 1280x1024 laptops around. I think there was a gateway 15" one way back.

Plus remember that 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect ratio, and most laptops I'm guessing aren't designed to fit with those. All the other screen resolutions on laptops (except the G4 Titanium) is 4:3.

Also remember that 1024x768 on a 13.3" viewable screen is 96 dpi, which is exactly the size that Windows was designed to work with.

That is incorrect. 1280x960 on a 13.3" viewable screen is 120 dpi, and that is exactly the size the large font setting of Windows was designed to work with. I'd love to have a 1280x980 13.3" 4:3 screen, but alas they do not exist.

I run my 19" CRT (18" viewable) at 1600x1200. That's 111 dpi. The Windows 120 dpi setting works great.
 
isn't reading small text less stainful on your eyes as your eyes will be more relaxed as the focusing distance is further away with smaller text.?

Im learning flash MX at the moment, and flash requires this nice resolution for the panels and stuff to be displayed all at once.

Anyway guys, you have more or less answered my question. Unless I go for a higher spec screen i.e 14"/15" or 16.1" (gulp) I won't get higher than 1024x768.

Well, the toshiba will suit me for now 😛
 
You can set the LCD resolution to 1280x1024, but you will have to "pan" around the screen. Basically it creates a virtual screen in which you can only see 1024x768 of the pixels at a time. You move the mouse to the edge of the LCD and the image shifts to show the hidden section (and hiding part of the previously viewable section).
