I'm kinda keeping my eyes open now for some new headphones. I have some Sony CD30's, which have lasted me nicely, but they're sort of mediocre quality.

I really am sort of looking to splurge, at the same time I don't want to spend more money than is necessary (I.E. if one brand is cheaper than the other but they're the same headphone, I'm going with the cheaper one). So, what are some suggestions for some great-sounding headphones?

I have the RP-HT1000's by Panasonic. I'm not an audiophile or anything, but these sound really good to me. I've never listened to Sony or Grado, though.
 
The Grados are good except for the fact that they are VERY open which means anyone aroudnd you will be able to hear your music and you will be able to hear everything going on around you. If you want a good closed set of headphones head over to www.audiocubes.com and check out the Audio Technica ATH-A55. They cost $99 plus $18 shipping from Japan. The come from Japan because they are a japanese only model. They sound great and imo are the best closed headphones for around $100. www.headphone.com is also a good place to shop for headphones.
 
sony mdr-v6 or grado sr60...

sony = better bass, surround, closed design, looks nicer $69

grado = better mids, highs, open design, fugly! $69
 
Awesome, looks like I'm getting some consistency: Grado SR60's. I wish there was a way I could test them out and hear them for myself. There really isn't a place near me where I could do that, though.

THe SOny MDR-v6...very good I'm told
Sennheiser HK-497...awesome headphones.. a know a great site that ranks them number two for non-amplifies Headphones
Grado SR60...The BEST heaphones you can get that DO NOT require a seperate amp...IF you the BESt..get these...problem is the yare open phones so they makes noise outward too


I have the HK-497's and they are amazing..DEEP bass.....Awesome mids...astounding Highs...and they are great for places where you want tunes loud but other don't
 
I love my sony MDR-V6, i got a better deal at the time than i could've gotten on the grado. Plus i'm a fan of the closed design 😀
 
No Fry's near me...course both a Best Buy and a Tweeters are supposed to open up soon near me, would they carry anything like this you think?
 
I find that Grado's and Sennheiser's have quite a different sound to them.

I much prefer Grado to Sennheiser.

Grado SR60 is the entry-level... If you've decided to splurge, you can always go up a level or two. Their top-end headphones are quite UNaffordable though 🙁
