I tried the Aeron and a Embody disliked them both.

Now have a Steelcase Gesture which I love!

Plus the warranty with Steelcase is top to none! Here is the chair I have https://www.amazon.com/Steelcase-44...=1516602589&sr=8-3&keywords=steelcase+gesture

I had the bottom of the seat coming apart a few months ago. Contacted Steelcase they first wanted to make sure my chair was bought from a authorized retailer. Understandable. I gave them a picture of the label under the chair. Then they contacted me back and said they would have someone come out and replace the whole seat for free! Sadly they had no one in my area close by to do that. So another option was for them to send me a whole new seat and for me to install it. I didn't feel comfortable with that so declined. So they came up with a third idea which was awesome! They were going to send me a whole new chair and for me to send back the old one! Sure enough a week later I got a new chair. Then shipped back the old one!

Whatever chair you get it brand new it is worth it!

^ That looks great, and uncomfortable. $1000 for that? GTFO. $200 for a used shotgun then a baby seal pelt on top of a milk crate would be as good for your back.

This is not rocket science. Go to the local office supply stores and sit in a few. Assume the padding will compress after use and pick one that seems a little overstuffed for your needs. Avoid fake leather unless you live in your mom's basement where light (UV) never shines so it doesn't break down as quickly. Then again if you are removed from society, unsightly cracks in pleather may not matter as much, just that the cushioning, once worn, is still adequate.

Frankly I used to have a cheap $60 (back when deals at office stores were rampant) chair. The cushioning wore out but that just caused me to improve my posture and use more back and stomach muscles. I have a nicer chair now and no core exercise from it. Improvement? Only when I'm feeling lazy.

Do not get a chair painted silver if you want it to look decent long term. Whether it be silver painted aluminum or plastic, it's a silly aesthetic touch that looks worse after a couple years of wear. If that $1000 chair I commented on is anodized aluminum that has some value, but not that much.

I'm surprised at all these low back chairs. Do you guys not like to lean your head back from time to time?

I broke down and ordered a used Aeron size C on ebay for 400 bucks shipped. At work we use Steelcase, and they are OK, I think the Aeron is a bit more comfortable to me ...

I spoke of the office chair I had referred to previously as the thread is about office chairs. :)

And I'm responding to why I have stains in various cloth seating since you assumed I did all kinds of nasty things on my cloth seats. You can easily get stains on a cloth chair, such as when eating at your desk. Just because you haven't, doesn't mean it won't happen to the next guy.

I do and at 6'5" it limits my options a lot. I bought a HON Endorse Mid-Back a couple of months ago and added the separate head rest. It works pretty well. Before that I had the Ikea Markus which had a great back but the seat padding wore out in 2 years.

This is the Endorse with the option headrest.

I have a bed for that.

Bad posture means shorter gaming sessions. :p

I need the high back as I lean back to watch episodes on the PC all the time.

What I don't get is the lumbar support. Who wants a hard lateral bar pressing against your lower back?

Well, lumbar varies a lot between individuals - best case, it's adjustable.

Exactly. I used to think my wife was weird for using lumbar because I found it extremely uncomfortable. Now that I'm older I've started using it as well. I don't always need it so it's nice to have something adjustable.

You are assuming that I assumed that, I said I didn't want to think about how you stained the sofa.
Ever hear of microfiber? Scotchguard? Fabric Sealing? Non staining fabrics? Or even just being careful? :) They all will work for you.

Not on my chair. It's all the way recessed and I can still feel the bar when sitting all the way back. They don't put extra cushioning over it.

Go see what your local Staples has in the store. You can find decent chairs there for a reasonable price. Some minor assembly required (bolt on arms and wheel pedestal) .. Plenty of choices, depending on what style you want. I like to go in person for a test fit before buying.

Been there, done that, they are throw away chairs. My Leap for $149 from Craigslist, was built in 2000, so its gonna last a lifetime it seems.

For the price, I can not complain. Relatively comfortable and my chair is now around 10 years old. Some minor tears, but not bad enough to replace it just yet.

Old chair is shot and looking to replace. Looking for something under 200 dollars preferably.

Any recommendations are appreciated!
years ago, I went to the office stores (stapes, office depot, etc) and sat in every computer chair on display.
bought the one that felt most comfortable to me, including head rest.

it wasn't on sale but I did have a coupon. (would have bought it even if no coupon.)
~$150 out the door

ironically, I didn't like the $500+ aeron/leap/steelcase chairs.

I only got 2 years or so max out of the $300 leather chairs. Never tried the mesh chairs, that could be the difference.

just picked up a Beautyrest Platinum Chair from Staples today - for $179. I had a mesh chair from Costco for awhile but this is much more comfy on skin when wearing just shorts or undies.

feels good folks.

I started working from home a lot more a couple months ago, so I invested in an E-WIN: (I dumped the lumbar pillow)

Pretty good, sitting in it now! I also got a larger monitor (32" - sounds huge, but it's not really that big IRL) to allow me to sit all the way back in the chair & still see the screen well. I got the WQHD (~2K) screen, which is just about the limits for my eyesight. I almost got a 1080p monitor, but figured that would be a bit too large, and the 4K stuff is too small for my eyes (plus I don't like the DPI enhancement adjustments that Windows does):

I'd probably go with a 28" 1080p if I were to do it again - at the distance vs. vision ratio of how far I sit back from it, I have to swivel my head a bit to see the whole screen (or read wide threads). #firstworldproblems lol. I use this 6500K LED backlighting strip with it: (runs off USB)

I own a refurbished RH Logic 400 that i paid £200 for (new they are £1k), which is the same i use at work.
There is no gaming chair that can compare to a medical chair. They are far more solid, supporting, and (mine) can be fully customized.

The earlier rh 100 are just as good.
