Looking for new Comcast Modem / Router

Hello,

I've been renting my modem for some time from Comcast and I am looking to purchase one finally. I don't know the current make / model of the one I have but I get pretty consistent speeds. I'd rather own my own rather than paying a monthly fee for something I won't even have at the end.

My speed I'm paying for is currently 50 / 10. I have read that a lot of times the combo of Modem / Router isn't a good bet. I really only need one LAN port (as only one computer will be hooked up to Ethernet) but I do need wi-fi capability.

I'd like to spend less than $150 for both or try to get a combo one if there is a good deal that will give good speeds. Any recommendations?

Here is the ones I've been looking at:

Motorola SB6141
Motorola SB6120
Motorola SB6121 SURFboard

Thoughts?

I was a Corporate network engineer for 25 years and after retiring I spent 6 years as a contractor to Comcast, CableVision and Time Warner. My personal preference is to use the ISP to supply their modem and use my own router for wireless and Lan configuration. Since I switch ISP's every two years or so to keep the "Welcome Back" rates (They're ALL the same as far as far as content for the most part), By doing it this way, should you ever have to change ISPs, The technician doing the install is (in theory) responsible for the modem to the router connection working and the rest of your network remains the same. And the modems/routers/wireless units from the cable companies are ALL refurbs and it's a crap shoot as to what you get installed on any given day.
