Looking for new bank in Cali...Who's your favorite?

I've had a recent run-in with BofA's outrageous fees and awful customer service and I'm looking for a new bank since they really don't care if I'm a customer anymore.

What banks do you guys use? Don't know if I can become a member of a credit union.

Thanks.

CU's are pretty easy to join as long as it's not specifically for one company. Normally they have some rule where they say "If you've ever driven through (city credit union is located in), you're eligible to join" 😀

Regarding BOA - that's why you get friendly with your local tellers 🙂

I never go inside. I have no reason to.

I also shouldn't have to buddy up with some teller just so I can get good customer service. I've heard others talk about how bad BofA is, but I always defended them because I never experienced anything bad with them. Today that has changed.

I was reading up on a credit union I think I can join.

Arghhhh...it's such a pain in the ass to change banks. :|

Credit unions are good. Personally I use First Federal Bank of Cali. Headquarters is on Wilshire right by the Promenade. I've used them for 4 years without any complaints.

But, I do keep a CU account at work since they pay better interest😉

I like my CU (Golden 1), because of the short lines. I know I rarely go into a bank, but if I have to, I really dispise waiting in line for an hour to do something that takes 2 minutes....

Without knowing the exact situation I can't respond about the customer service aspect of it, but everyone I've met who worked there (manager, teller, or personal finance guy) at pretty much every branch has treated me the way I would treat them.

Most people might think that citi-bank would be worse than BofA, but I've had a great experience with citi and their online banking is top-notch.

i use BofA, i've never been charged a single fee, the one time they did i walked down there since its barely a block from my work, and they credited my account......pretty easy and simple for me

Wamu is great for people like me that have next to no money and use their totally free checking. Only fee they charged me was when I had to use someone elses ATM. Otherwise totally free banking at the cost of 0% interest checking. Heck they don't charge people to use their ATM too.
